Chapter 135
Caleb raised his head, his bright eyes locking onto the professor. "Then why did you still choose to help me?"
Lucas Laurent frowned, crossing his arms. "Who said I helped you? You're just a child. And you dare to speak to a professor like that?"
"I'm not just a child," Caleb shot back, his tiny fists clenching.
Lucas smirked, gesturing toward Caleb’s height. "You’re barely taller than my knee. What else would you call yourself?"
Caleb huffed. "I will grow taller!"
Lucas chuckled. "But right now, you’re still a tiny troublemaker."
His gaze lingered on the boy.
Sharp-witted. Fearless. And he aced the academy’s recent evaluation. Interesting.
But why does he look so familiar?
"I have piano practice now. Goodbye, Professor Laurent." Caleb propped his hands on his hips and marched off with all the dignity a five-year-old could muster.
Lucas watched him go, amused.
Whose child is this? He’s… intriguing.
After school, Liam and Daisy waited in the car while Angela drove them to pick up Caleb.
"Is the head of the Royal Academy of Music really that scary?" Daisy asked, swinging her legs. "Uncle Adrian says he yells a lot."
Caleb climbed in, buckling his seatbelt. "He’s not that bad. Just… blunt."
Liam leaned forward. "But the Laurent family isn’t one to mess with. His mother is a noblewoman from Stoslo."
Daisy gasped. "Like the princesses in fairy tales? With big dresses and carriages?"
Liam hesitated. "Uh… probably?"
Angela sighed, gripping the wheel.
Whenever these three got together, trouble followed.
At the Goldmann mansion, dinner was unusually tense.
With Mr. Goldmann Sr. away, only Nathan and Evelyn sat at the table with the kids. The air between them was thick with unspoken words.
Caleb glanced between them before piping up. "Mommy, did you and Daddy fight?"
Evelyn’s fork slipped, clattering against her plate. She shot Nathan a look.
Nathan, calmly deboning fish for Daisy, didn’t even glance up. "Why would I fight with your mother? I adore her too much."
Evelyn rolled her eyes.
Daisy blinked up at him. "Daddy, does that mean we’ll get a baby brother or sister soon?"
Nathan paused, tilting his head. "Do you want one?"
"Yes!"
"Absolutely not!" Evelyn stabbed her fork into her food. "Three of you are already a handful!"
Caleb pouted. "But Liam always gets to take care of Daisy. I want a sister too!"
Evelyn nearly choked.
Nathan smirked, leaning back. "We can have as many as you want, darling. Money isn’t an issue."
Evelyn set her napkin down with a sharp smile. "I’ll consider it when you’re the one carrying them."
With that, she stood and strode upstairs.
Caleb whispered, "Is Mommy mad?"
Nathan ruffled his hair. "She’ll be fine. Eat your dinner." His lips curved. "I’ll handle her later."
Evelyn exhaled as she reached the bedroom.
Those little traitors.
And if Nathan thought she’d cave so easily, he had another thing coming.
