Chapter 160
Evelyn hesitated at the doorway. "Nathan doesn't have pajamas, so I came to ask if you had any that might fit him."
Richard's expression softened. "I actually bought a new set recently—haven't even worn them yet. Let me get them for you."
He disappeared into his room and returned with a neatly folded pair of silk pajamas.
As Evelyn turned to leave, Richard stepped forward. "Zoe."
She paused, glancing back. "Yes?"
His voice was heavy with regret. "I was the one who wronged you."
Evelyn lowered her gaze. "It's fine, Dad." Without another word, she walked away, refusing to meet his eyes.
Richard exhaled, his chest tight. Even if she hadn’t fully forgiven him, hearing her call him Dad again was enough—for now.
As Evelyn approached her room, she froze.
Lydia stood outside her door, speaking to Nathan with an unmistakable blush on her cheeks. The way she fidgeted, the way her eyes sparkled—it was obvious.
She likes him.
Nathan noticed Evelyn’s return and arched a brow. "You're back."
Evelyn scoffed internally. If I hadn’t come back, I wouldn’t have seen you two chatting so happily.
She shoved the pajamas into his hands. "Here. They’re new."
Lydia quickly interjected, "Evelyn, don’t misunderstand. We were just talking about you."
Evelyn smirked. "I’m not misunderstanding anything."
With that, she nudged Nathan aside and strode into the room.
Nathan watched her, amused.
That reaction? Definitely jealous.
Lydia hesitated. "Mr. Goldmann, I—"
"My wife and I are going to rest now." His tone turned icy as he shut the door in her face.
Lydia clenched her fists, stunned.
What just happened? He was perfectly pleasant before Evelyn showed up!
A sly smile curled her lips.
I made sure to mention Evelyn to get closer to him, and he didn’t push me away. Maybe… I still have a chance.
Inside the room, Nathan changed into the pajamas and emerged from the bathroom.
Evelyn was already on the bed, her back to him.
He smirked, lying beside her and propping his head on his hand. "Jealous?"
She turned, frowning. "What are you talking about?"
Jealous? Please. He can flirt with whoever he wants.
Nathan chuckled. "If not jealous, then definitely angry."
Evelyn sat up, glaring. "Nathan, stop being so full of yourself. I’m just irritated about something else. It has nothing to do with you."
She flopped back down, but a sharp pang twisted in her chest.
Nathan hadn’t moved.
She peeked over her shoulder. "It’s about my father."
His eyes lit up at her attempt to explain. He reached out, twirling a strand of her hair around his finger. "I know. But just so we’re clear—no other woman interests me. Only you."
He’d only entertained Lydia to see Evelyn’s reaction.
And though she’d acted indifferent, he knew better.
She cared.
Evelyn stayed silent, facing away again.
Nathan wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her flush against him.
She stiffened but didn’t pull away.
