Chapter 222

Evelyn felt Nathan's warm breath against her ear as he murmured, "I can't wait another second."

His lips captured hers in a searing kiss.

In the luxurious penthouse suite...

Nathan pressed Evelyn down onto the rose-petal strewn bed, his mouth moving hungrily over hers. The passion between them burned hotter than ever.

Her dark hair fanned across the silk sheets, each strand teasing his senses.

"How should I punish you for making me wait so long?" His deep voice sent shivers down her spine.

"May I?" he whispered against her neck, his hands roaming possessively.

Evelyn gasped as he sought her consent. Heat flooded her cheeks. "You bastard...asking now of all times—Mmm!"

Nathan's grip tightened around her waist, but then—

Her phone rang.

The shrill tone shattered the moment. Evelyn pushed against his shoulders. "Nathan, I have to—"

"Let it ring," he growled through clenched teeth.

But the persistent caller wouldn't give up. With a mischievous smile, Evelyn flipped their positions and grabbed his silk tie.

Nathan's eyes darkened with anticipation. "Taking charge, darling?"

She secured his wrists to the headboard with expert knots—then sprang up to answer her phone.

Richard's urgent voice made her blood run cold. "Your grandmother's been in an accident. Get to the hospital immediately."

Evelyn's fingers trembled as she hung up. She turned to find Nathan had already freed himself, his expression stormy.

"I have to go," she whispered, leaning in to brush her lips against his.

Nathan caught the back of her head, deepening the kiss before releasing her with a frustrated groan. "You owe me."

At the hospital entrance, Nathan stopped her to drape his tailored jacket over her shoulders. "It's cold inside."

Evelyn's heart fluttered at the gesture.

Inside the private ward, Madam Victoria lay propped up in bed—with Laura seated dutifully beside her.

"Disgraceful!" Madam Victoria spat when she noticed Evelyn's attire. "Parading around in a man's clothes!"

Evelyn smiled coolly. "Mr. Goldmann was concerned for my comfort. Nothing disgraceful about that."

Madam Victoria's tirade died at Nathan's name. She turned to Richard. "If not for Laura, I wouldn't be here. She got injured saving me. You must take your wife back."

Richard remained silent.

Evelyn's eyes narrowed.

'Laura saved her?'

The bandages on Laura's hands seemed suspiciously pristine.

"Don't trouble yourself, Mother," Laura said meekly. "Consider this repayment for your kindness all these years."
