Chapter 303

Evelyn packed her bags and stepped out of the training camp. Nathan was already waiting for her downstairs, leaning against his sleek black car with his arms crossed.

Chloe rushed over to say goodbye, clutching Evelyn’s hand tightly. "Evelyn, promise I can visit you during my break?"

A soft smile curved Evelyn’s lips. "Of course! My door is always open for you."

Before leaving, she turned to take one last look at the vast training grounds, the memories flashing through her mind. Then, with a quiet exhale, she slid into the car.

Nathan noticed her lingering gaze out the window and gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "Not ready to leave yet?"

Evelyn turned to him, her expression thoughtful. "Nathan, there’s something I need to ask you."

He stilled. It was the first time she had ever asked him for a favor. "Name it."

"Lillian is incredibly talented. She gave up her assessment because of me. Could you…?"

"You want me to fast-track her promotion?" Nathan’s eyes narrowed slightly. Even now, Evelyn was thinking of others. Had she forgotten the wound on her arm?

She crossed her arms and looked away, feigning indifference. "How can I believe you’re sincere if you won’t even do this for me?"

Lillian had the skills and experience. With Nathan’s influence, it wouldn’t be difficult to push her name forward.

Nathan pulled her into his arms, a smirk playing on his lips. "That depends on how you plan to bribe me."

Evelyn’s lips twitched. A mischievous glint flashed in her eyes as she traced circles on his chest with her finger. "That depends on how well you handle it."

Nathan’s grip tightened around her finger, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Zoe, don’t play with fire unless you want me to ask Oliver to pull over right now."

His teeth grazed her earlobe, sending a shiver down her spine. Zoe had learned to tease him, and he wasn’t sure he could hold back even if he swore celibacy for a week.

Evelyn wriggled out of his embrace with a huff. "Double standards."

Why was it fair for him to tease her, but not the other way around? Wait—why was she even thinking like this?

Nathan adjusted his posture, his expression unreadable, though amusement flickered in his eyes. "You can do whatever you want when we get home."

Evelyn rolled her eyes. He was probably hoping she’d keep pushing his limits.

Nathan pulled out his phone and dialed Harrison. "Add a cadet named Lillian Heinrich to the priority list for headquarters transfer. Get it done by the end of the week."

After hanging up, he turned to Evelyn, his gaze expectant. "Satisfied?"

She grinned and gave him a thumbs-up.

Nathan sighed in mock exasperation.

At the Goldmann Mansion

"Mommy!"

Caleb, Liam, and Daisy, who hadn’t seen their mother in weeks, stood eagerly by the door with the butler. The moment she stepped out of the car, they rushed toward her.

Evelyn crouched down, wrapping them all in a tight hug. "Did you miss me?"

"Of course!" Caleb declared.

Liam nodded vigorously. "You look thinner, Mommy."

Daisy pouted. "Did they not feed you there?"

Evelyn chuckled, ruffling their hair. But then she noticed Daisy’s rounder cheeks and pinched them playfully. "Someone’s been eating well while I was gone."

Daisy gasped in mock offense. "I did not!"

Liam crossed his arms. "How could we not? Uncle Adrian keeps feeding us lobster every night!"
