Chapter 321
Evelyn knew the three children had no reason to lie. She was well aware that Rosalind was a hypocrite. Since Theodore trusted Rosalind so blindly, it would be effortless for her to drive a wedge between them.
Before she could ask further, Adrian appeared at the door with his two assistants.
Daisy rushed forward and tugged at Adrian's sleeve. "Uncle Adrian! Come meet my mommy!"
But Adrian had already been briefed about the situation.
He smiled warmly at Daisy and ruffled her hair before turning to Evelyn. "I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long."
Evelyn returned his smile. "We just arrived ourselves."
Once seated, Daisy immediately claimed the chair beside Evelyn. Today, her mother belonged solely to her, and she'd make sure her brothers got their fair share of attention too.
"Liam mentioned you've been looking after them on set, Mr. Boucher. I hope they haven't been too much trouble."
Daisy puffed out her cheeks indignantly. "I never cause trouble for Uncle Adrian!"
Evelyn barely suppressed an eye roll.
'Could've fooled me,' she thought wryly.
Adrian chuckled. "They're delightful company – clever and full of energy. I've grown quite fond of them."
Evelyn lowered her gaze. "Actually, I wanted to thank you for promoting Soul Jewelry's collection. Without your endorsement, we wouldn't have achieved such success. Consider this dinner my way of showing gratitude."
Adrian leaned back, steepling his fingers beneath his chin as he studied her. "Just one dinner?"
"Pardon?" Evelyn blinked.
'Should I offer two dinners instead?' she wondered.
Amused by her puzzled expression, Adrian smirked. "If you're repaying favors, don't bother spending your own money. Nathan owes me one too – let's charge it to his account."
Evelyn's smile turned strained.
'Nothing like friends throwing each other under the bus,' she mused.
When the food arrived, Evelyn found herself relaxing. Despite Adrian's elite background and A-list celebrity status, he was surprisingly down-to-earth with an easygoing charm.
Their conversation turned to Felix, prompting Evelyn's curiosity. "By the way, why is Felix attending the training camp?"
Adrian's expression turned wry. "So you've met my cousin. He's my uncle's son – the family black sheep. My uncle hoped military discipline might curb his... carefree lifestyle."
Evelyn nodded understandingly. Felix did radiate that irresponsible playboy aura.
"He's the one who called me after your viper bite. That's how Professor Lennox and I reached the camp so quickly."
Evelyn froze.
'They were my rescuers?'
"Mommy!" Daisy's voice trembled. "You got bitten by a snake?"
"Why didn't you tell me?" Her lower lip quivered dangerously.
Evelyn hastily shoved fries into Daisy's hands as distraction.
Gregory looked equally shocked – he'd known nothing about the camp incident. A viper bite? That was terrifyingly dangerous.
After dinner, they descended to the parking garage. Evelyn knelt before Daisy, pressing a kiss to her cheek. "Be good on set, sweetheart."
Daisy nodded solemnly. "Promise."
Standing, Evelyn handed Daisy to Angela, who guided the girl into Adrian's car.
"Take care of yourself," Evelyn said.
Adrian, standing beside her, suddenly chuckled. "Don't look back. Just get in your car. Now."
