Chapter 337
The pieces of this puzzle all pointed to one person—Evelyn Vanderbilt. Every incident appeared to be meticulously orchestrated against her.
Nathan dialed Oliver again, his voice sharp. "Get your ass back here immediately."
Oliver hesitated. "But Mr. Theodore Goldmann said—"
Nathan's expression darkened. "He won't find out. I need you to investigate something."
Evelyn only learned about the accident involving Liam and Daisy when she saw the news alert. They had been filming a commercial when disaster struck.
She had been overseeing renovations at Viana Jewelry and rushed to the hospital straight from the company.
Seeing the children safe in the ward with Adrian eased some of her panic.
"Mommy!" Daisy sprinted into her arms.
Evelyn noticed her daughter's red-rimmed eyes and felt her heart clench. "Sweetheart, were you and Liam scared?"
"Angela saved me." Daisy's lower lip trembled. "Did I hurt her?"
Evelyn's gaze shifted to the unconscious woman on the hospital bed. Her throat tightened.
Angela had risked herself for her children. Gratitude swelled in Evelyn's chest.
I'll thank her properly when she wakes up.
"My brave girl," Evelyn smoothed Daisy's hair, "the best way to repay Angela is to remember her kindness and pass it forward when you're older."
Taking Daisy's hand, Evelyn approached Liam and turned to Adrian. "Mr. Boucher, thank you for watching over them."
Adrian gave a tired smile. "Of course. Someone targeted these kids—I couldn't leave them unprotected."
"Targeted?" Evelyn's blood ran cold.
This was no accident.
Adrian glanced at Liam. "Your boy's sharp. He noticed tampered equipment on set. Gemini Advertising confirmed it was sabotage."
Evelyn's face paled.
Not an accident. A calculated attack. They're coming after my children to get to me—just like what happened to Dad.
But even if Theodore wants to force me away from Nathan, he wouldn't harm innocent kids.
Unless...Vivian's behind this?
As Evelyn and Adrian stepped out with the children, they collided with Theodore and Rosalind entering the hallway.
Theodore's face darkened when he saw Evelyn with the Boucher heir. His opening words were laced with venom. "What kind of mother allows her children into the entertainment industry? Look what your negligence almost cost them."
Evelyn remained silent.
Maybe I was wrong to let them pursue acting.
Rosalind intervened with practiced grace. "Grandfather, Ms. Vanderbilt clearly cares deeply for her children."
"If she cared, they wouldn't be in this situation," Theodore snapped.
Liam suddenly stepped forward, small fists clenched. "We chose acting! Don't yell at our mommy!"
Theodore froze. The boy's defiant protection reminded him painfully of Nathan at that age—both willing to defy the world for this woman.
Evelyn placed a gentle hand on Liam's shoulder. "We don't speak to elders that way."
"I don't need a great-grandfather," Liam declared, glaring at Rosalind, "but I'll always need Mommy."
Though young, the boy understood life's true priorities. No one could replace his mother's place in his heart.
