Chapter 339

Evelyn glanced at Nathan, who had been left out on the opposite side of the dining table, looking sullen and jealous. She kindly fetched a piece of meat and placed it on his plate. "Good boy, we still love you."

Nathan was rendered speechless.

This sounds oddly familiar.

Daisy scooped a large spoonful of mashed potatoes and looked at Nathan with wide, curious eyes. "Daddy, Uncle Adrian said today that Grandma was also from the entertainment industry. Why haven’t we met her?"

The moment the question left Daisy’s lips, the atmosphere at the table shifted abruptly.

Evelyn lowered her gaze.

He probably doesn’t want to talk about his mother.

But to her surprise, Nathan answered calmly, "Yes, but your grandmother isn’t here anymore."

The three children froze.

That statement could mean two things—either she wasn’t with them physically, or she was no longer in this world.

After dinner, Evelyn was washing dishes in the kitchen, lost in thought.

Her mind wandered, and a plate slipped from her fingers, shattering on the floor.

As she crouched to pick up the pieces, a sharp shard sliced her finger, drawing blood.

Nathan, hearing the commotion, immediately set Daisy down on the couch and rushed into the kitchen.

Seeing Evelyn crouched on the floor, injured, his brow furrowed. He strode forward, pulling her up. "Are you trying to hurt yourself? Let me see."

"It's just a small cut," Evelyn murmured, trying to pull her hand back, but Nathan held it firmly.

"Don’t move," he commanded.

Liam, ever the quick thinker, appeared with the first-aid kit. "Daddy, here."

Nathan took it without a word, carefully wrapping the small wound.

The other two children peeked into the kitchen, eyes wide with curiosity.

Daddy and Mommy look so close!

Evelyn stole a glance at Nathan—peeking, really.

He’s unfairly attractive when he’s serious.

Suddenly, her feet left the ground.

Before she could react, she was swept into Nathan’s arms.

"Liam, clean this up," Nathan ordered, carrying Evelyn out of the kitchen.

Evelyn blinked in surprise as Liam sighed dramatically but obediently grabbed the broom.

The other two children exchanged glances.

So unfair.

Back in the bedroom, Evelyn, now deposited on the bed, lightly smacked Nathan’s shoulder. "You made Liam clean up?"

Since when does he use our son for chores?

Nathan smirked. "Worried he can’t handle it? He’s smarter than you."

"Nathan, you—"

"Why are you so distracted tonight?" Nathan interrupted, his gaze sharp. "Is it because Daisy mentioned your mother-in-law earlier?"

Evelyn’s breath hitched.

Has he really stopped seeing me as just—

"Am I wrong?"

She mumbled, "We’re not even married yet."

Nathan stepped closer, tilting her chin up with a smirk. "Are you saying you want to marry me now?"

Evelyn’s cheeks flushed. Why is my heart racing like this?

"Zoe," Nathan murmured, his knees pressing into the mattress as he caged her between his arms. "Tomorrow’s an auspicious day. Let’s get married."

Evelyn’s eyes widened. "You believe in superstitions like that?"

Nathan grinned. "It’s February 14th tomorrow. Valentine’s Day."

Her pulse skyrocketed.

I never cared about marriage before… but with him, I suddenly do.
