Chapter 348

Evelyn couldn't suppress a smile as Nathan's promise echoed in her ears. "You said it yourself," she murmured.

The next morning...

Rosalind strode into the office building, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. A cluster of employees huddled near reception immediately caught her attention.

"Have you seen Mr. Goldmann and Ms. Vanderbilt lately? Ever since they registered their marriage, they've been inseparable."

"Of course they're not hiding it anymore - they're legally married now!"

"I swear, the way Mr. Goldmann looks at her... I never knew I could ship a real-life couple this hard."

Rosalind's steps faltered, her expression darkening.

She hadn't heard from Vivian since yesterday. The failed mission didn't surprise her. At least she'd been smart enough to use a burner phone - even if Nathan investigated, there'd be no trail leading back to her.

The elevator doors slid open, revealing Evelyn clinging to Nathan's arm like some lovesick puppy. Just as those gossiping women had described.

Spotting Rosalind, Evelyn deliberately tightened her grip on Nathan's arm and flashed a saccharine smile. "Darling, I want a date today."

Nathan's amber eyes crinkled in amusement at her sudden endearment - until he noticed Rosalind's presence.

Ah. His feisty little wife was marking her territory. He turned to Evelyn with exaggerated interest. "Hmm? Where did you have in mind?"

"Somewhere thrilling," Evelyn purred, arching an eyebrow.

Rosalind's icy glare burned into them as they carried on their shameless display.

She marched forward, her face a mask of professionalism. "Nathan has an important meeting this afternoon. Surely you wouldn't want to interfere with his work?"

"Oh really?" Evelyn blinked up at Nathan with exaggerated innocence. "But you told me your schedule was clear today."

Nathan nodded. "It is."

Rosalind pressed her lips into a thin line. "Nathan, the quarterly review-"

"Ms. Summers," Evelyn cut in sweetly, "as Nathan's special assistant, shouldn't you be capable of handling a simple meeting? After all, Oliver managed much more complex tasks during his time."

Rosalind's fists clenched at her sides.

"Quincy worked tirelessly for Nathan. I know how hard my husband has been working - doesn't he deserve one day off?"

She stepped closer, her smile turning razor-sharp. "And really, you should stop calling him by his first name. People might get... the wrong idea."

The deliberate jab hit its mark - Evelyn had always hated how casually Rosalind addressed her husband.

Rosalind forced a tight smile. "We've known each other since childhood. It's force of habit."

"Break it." Evelyn's voice turned steely. "Nathan isn't single anymore. I'm his wife now, and I don't appreciate other women being so familiar with him."

She tilted her chin up defiantly. Normally she wouldn't care, but things were different now.

"Nathan-" Rosalind began.

"Didn't you hear my wife?" Nathan interrupted coldly. "That's Mr. Goldmann to you now."

Without another glance at Rosalind's stricken expression, he guided Evelyn away, his arm possessively around her waist.

Rosalind stood frozen, her teeth sinking into her lower lip until she tasted blood. She'd make Evelyn regret this. Soon.

In the underground parking garage, as Evelyn moved to enter the car, Nathan suddenly pulled her back. Pinning her against the vehicle, he traced a finger along her jawline.
