Chapter 351

The female employee trembled when she saw Evelyn standing there after overhearing their conversation.

"Ms.—Ms. Vanderbilt—"

Evelyn tilted her head, a playful smile curling on her lips. "What were you two discussing?"

The women exchanged nervous glances, their faces flushing with embarrassment.

"Relax, I won’t scold you." Evelyn’s tone was light, but her gaze sharpened. "I just want to know who started these rumors."

One of them hesitated before stammering, "W-We heard it from the administrative office. They said… you refused to let Mr. Goldmann attend the meeting yesterday."

Evelyn’s eyes narrowed. "The administrative office?"

The woman nodded quickly, then added in a hushed voice, "I think… Ms. Summers might have said something to them first."

A knowing glint flashed in Evelyn’s eyes. "Thank you." She smiled before turning on her heel.

In the administrative office, gossip was in full swing.

"Honestly, what man could resist Ms. Vanderbilt? If I were in Mr. Goldmann’s place, I’d skip meetings for her too."

"Please, beauty fades. Even if they’re madly in love now, what happens when she’s old and wrinkled? You think passion lasts forever in these elite circles?"

"Exactly! Have you not heard the scandals in those wealthy families?"

The chatter continued, none of them noticing Evelyn’s presence—until one male employee cleared his throat loudly.

Silence fell instantly.

Evelyn smiled, scanning the room. "I assume you all know where Ms. Summers is?"

"Sh-She’s—"

"Looking for me, Ms. Vanderbilt?" Rosalind stepped out of her office, her expression darkening at the sight of Evelyn.

Evelyn’s smile didn’t waver. "I heard some interesting rumors today. And a little bird told me you were the one spreading them. What do you think I should do about that?"

The room tensed.

Rosalind crossed her arms, lifting her chin defiantly. "I only spoke the truth. If you didn’t do anything wrong, why should you care?"

In Rosalind’s mind, Evelyn was nothing more than a distraction—a pretty face unworthy of Nathan’s time.

Evelyn stepped closer.

Then—

Slap.

The sharp sound echoed through the office.

Rosalind staggered, her cheek burning. The others gasped, frozen in shock.

"You—!" Rosalind seethed, her eyes blazing.

Evelyn smirked. "I told Winifred the same thing once. People who can’t control their tongues deserve consequences."

A flicker of unease crossed Rosalind’s face at the mention of Winifred, but she quickly masked it.

"Evelyn, we’re in ckgold. Do you really think you can get away with this?"

Evelyn laughed. "Why wouldn’t I?" She gestured to the stunned onlookers. "They all saw what happened. Do I look worried about rumors?"

She leaned in, her voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Let me remind you—you’re just a secretary. Nathan is the CEO. If he has to handle everything himself, what’s the point of you being here? Do you expect him to babysit you after paying your salary?"

Evelyn stepped back, her smile widening. "Now I understand why Nathan trusts Oliver so much more."
