Chapter 378
Evelyn pressed her lips together. Ever since Rosalind had leaked information to Nathan, they had suspected her involvement in those incidents.
When Evelyn had tried to trick her with the photo of the man, Rosalind panicked and confessed that the person she sent wasn’t the one they were discussing—she couldn’t even confirm if he had been caught.
It was clear she was the reason Theodore had shown up.
Theodore frowned. "This is just a minor issue. There’s no need to blow it out of proportion." His trust in Rosalind remained unshaken.
Nathan’s gaze hardened. He scoffed. "Is murder a minor issue?" His tone left no room for argument.
Theodore’s expression darkened as he turned to Rosalind.
Rosalind desperately denied the accusation, her voice trembling. "Grandpa, I didn’t do it! I’ve been by your side all this time. You know me!" She meant to imply she would never harm anyone.
Theodore hesitated. Rosalind had been his loyal companion for years, never stepping out of line. He dismissed Nathan’s suspicions as mere prejudice and made a concession. "If you dislike Rosalind’s presence, just bring Oliver back."
Rosalind lowered her head, her eyes burning with hatred. Staying by Nathan’s side no longer mattered—they had set a trap for her, suspecting her all along.
She was fortunate Theodore still believed in her, but she couldn’t stay idle. Now that the truth was out, she had to act fast.
Nathan remained expressionless, as if he had already predicted the outcome. His silence was heavy, his jaw clenched.
Theodore ordered Rosalind to leave first before turning to Nathan sternly. "Rosalind grew up with us. No matter your disdain for her, you will treat her with respect—for Uncle Summers’ sake."
Nathan’s voice was icy. "The Summers family raised you, but I owe them nothing. I don’t have to be kind to them." Respect was the last thing on his mind.
"You—" Theodore choked on his words, shooting Evelyn a glare before storming out.
Evelyn sighed. Had she just been labeled the instigator?
Nathan pulled her into his arms. "Upset?" His voice was soft, referring to how things had unfolded.
Evelyn had expected Theodore to defend Rosalind, but his blind trust still stung. "A little."
Nathan tilted her chin up, brushing his thumb over her lips. "We’re not completely empty-handed."
Evelyn paused. They hadn’t lost entirely—they had confirmed Rosalind’s involvement and uncovered the connection between Mr. Whitmore and the other man.
Nathan studied her. "Want to visit Mr. Whitmore at the hospital with me?"
Mr. Whitmore had been discreetly transferred to a private facility. Standing outside his ward, Evelyn glanced inside. "Has he woken up yet?"
Oliver shook his head. "Not yet. The doctors say it’s up to him now."
Evelyn stayed silent as Nathan asked, "Any leads on that man’s family?"
Oliver hesitated. "Yes, but it’s strange. Both his parents are deceased. He went through a divorce and had no close friends. He wasn’t protecting anyone, as you suspected."
Evelyn frowned. "Did I misjudge the situation?"
