Chapter 394
Hadn't Rosalind been deliberately stalling to ensure Theodore would cross paths with her and Harrison?
Vivian appeared deep in thought, processing Evelyn's words. Resting her chin on her palm, Evelyn continued, "If he truly is her man, she could've ordered them to eliminate me. So why hasn't she? Is she just keeping tabs on me?"
Nathan stood abruptly, his gaze sharpening. "It seems she's exploiting those closest to you."
"Those closest to me? But no one else knew I went to SS Restaurant except you and—"
A realization struck her, and she gasped.
Nathan smirked darkly. "Perhaps it's time to teach her that not everyone in this world is as naive as she thinks."
The next day...
Nathan summoned Chloe to his office. Scratching her head nervously, she stepped inside, glancing at Oliver before asking, "Did you need me, Mr. Goldmann?"
Nathan didn’t look up from the documents he was flipping through. "The day I sent you to pick Zoe up from SS Restaurant—did you mention it to anyone else?"
"I told Rosalind," Chloe admitted without hesitation. "She was with me when you called, so I mentioned it to her."
Oliver pinched the bridge of his nose, hissing through clenched teeth. "Are you serious, Chloe? Did you tell Rosalind everything? Please tell me you didn’t also reveal where we took the man we captured."
He couldn’t believe his sister’s naivety. She’d been manipulated, and she hadn’t even realized it.
Chloe frowned in confusion. "What’s the big deal? Rosalind seemed genuinely concerned. Why wouldn’t I tell her?"
Oliver exhaled sharply, shaking his head. Clearly, she was the one who had leaked the information.
Nathan slammed the documents onto the desk, his voice icy. "You might just be the most gullible person I’ve ever met. Do you not realize Rosalind is behind all of this?"
Chloe’s eyes widened in disbelief. "That can’t be true! Rosalind is kind—gentle! How could she—?"
Oliver cut her off with a sigh. "Chloe, all the evidence points to her. The man we captured? He was killed last night—right after you told Rosalind."
Her face paled.
Had she been the one to cause this?
"Mr. Goldmann, Oliver… I—I’m so sorry. I swear I won’t trust anyone so blindly again. I just—" Her voice cracked with guilt.
Nathan’s piercing gaze locked onto her. "What exactly did you tell her?"
Chloe swallowed hard. "I told her we caught him at the hospital. She asked where he was being held, and I… I didn’t think it mattered, so I said the Summer Pavilion."
She wanted to slap herself.
Oliver exhaled in relief. At least he hadn’t told her everything—otherwise, Rosalind would’ve learned about Mr. Whitmore’s location and the staged confrontation that night.
With Shane eliminated, Rosalind would undoubtedly report back to Theodore.
Before Oliver could speak, Nathan said coldly, "Now you understand the gravity of your mistake?"
Chloe nodded shakily.
A smirk curled Nathan’s lips. "Good. Then you’ll have a chance to make it right. Consider this your redemption."
Her eyes lit up with determination. "I won’t let you down, Mr. Goldmann!"
At the Goldmann mansion...
