Chapter 460
Nathan clenched his fists tightly before parting his lips slightly.
"They're still experimenting."
Harrison was stunned. "How did you know?"
"Because I've been infected." His cold gaze lingered on the teacup. "There's no incubation period this time. It's a new strain."
"Does Evelyn know?"
"No."
Harrison fell silent for a long moment, shock evident in his expression.
Nathan's voice remained steady. "Zoe's mother was infected. She must have taken something to suppress it, which is why Zoe shows no symptoms. And her blood... is unique."
Harrison exhaled sharply, lifting the teacup but not drinking.
Nathan continued, indifferent. "I'll divorce Evelyn."
Harrison studied him for a long time. From what he had just witnessed, it was clear Nathan cared deeply for his granddaughter. He set the cup down. "I understand."
"Keep this a secret for me." Nathan's tone was firm.
Harrison hesitated. "Don't you want to live?"
A flicker of emotion darkened Nathan's eyes, but he didn't answer directly. "You and Edmund will protect her. I've already given her half of ckgold's shares. The Goldmanns won't fall even if I die. This... is my only way out."
After Harrison left, Nathan suddenly coughed violently, blood staining his fingers crimson.
Oliver burst in at the sound, panic flashing across his face. "Sir, I'm taking you to the hospital—"
"No hospitals." Nathan's face paled. "Handle the divorce paperwork. But take me home first."
Evelyn had been sitting in her office all afternoon, her eyelids twitching incessantly. A deep unease coiled in her chest.
Then Oliver's message arrived.
Her heart plummeted when she read it—Nathan wanted her to handle the divorce.
She applied fresh makeup, determined to confront him at his office.
But when she arrived, she was told Nathan hadn’t been in for days. Oliver was managing everything.
She strode into the administrative office, finding only Oliver there.
"Ms. Vanderbilt." He stood, sliding a document across the desk. "Mr. Goldmann asked you to sign this first."
Evelyn stared at the papers, her calm unnerving even to herself. "He’s really going through with this?"
Oliver avoided her gaze, his expression tense. "I’m sorry. He has his reasons. Just... sign it."
Her fists tightened, then loosened. "I want to see Nathan."
"Mr. Goldmann isn’t seeing anyone."
"Oliver." Her voice sharpened. "Tell me what’s happening to him."
Oliver hesitated. He could see Evelyn’s desperation, but his oath bound him. "I’m sorry."
Understanding flickered in her eyes. She pushed the papers away. "Then I won’t sign."
Before Oliver could react, she turned and left.
In her car, her grip on the steering wheel turned white-knuckled.
"Divorce?" Her voice was a whisper, then a snarl. "After everything, Nathan Goldmann, you push me away without a word?"
She grabbed her phone and dialed. "Sophia. Free tonight? Let’s get a drink."
