Chapter 472
The elderly woman's face brightened instantly. She fumbled for her phone with trembling hands. "Is it really you? Oh my goodness, thank you, young man!"
Adrian Boucher flashed his signature charming smile and posed for a selfie with her. After the photo, the woman waved goodbye, still beaming with joy.
Adjusting his black-rimmed glasses, Adrian let out a relieved sigh. "That was way too close for comfort."
Evelyn stifled a laugh. "Honestly, what were you thinking? Wandering into a public hospital without even a disguise? You're literally the hottest actor in the country right now, Mr. Boucher."
Thankfully, the elderly woman wasn't as tuned into celebrity gossip as younger generations. Otherwise, the entire hospital would've erupted into chaos.
Adrian merely smirked but didn't respond.
He didn't linger much longer. After escorting Evelyn back to her ward, he said, "I should head out now. Take care of yourself, okay?"
Evelyn nodded. "I will."
As he turned to leave, he paused. "Oh, and if you need anything—anything at all—just call Sophia."
The unspoken message was clear: Sophia would relay everything to him.
Evelyn murmured her agreement.
Though she appreciated Adrian's kindness, she didn't want to impose. The last thing she needed was to drag him into another media scandal.
The moment Adrian left, Oliver Lawson appeared in the doorway. Evelyn's expression darkened.
She already knew what document he was holding. "Divorce papers, I assume?"
Oliver hesitated, then nodded. He placed the papers on the bedside table. "Ms. Vanderbilt, signing this is for the best. For both you and Mr. Goldmann."
He knew how deeply Evelyn loved Nathan, and how fiercely Nathan had once loved her. But Nathan had made his choice—he didn’t want her to suffer.
Even if he only had a few years left, he still prioritized her happiness above all else.
Evelyn was silent for a long moment before whispering, "Fine. I'll sign."
Oliver blinked in surprise. He hadn’t expected her to agree so easily. But then again, maybe she understood it was inevitable.
Evelyn took the papers and signed without even glancing at the terms. "I don’t want the shares. He can give them to whoever he pleases. Since he’s the one insisting on this, tell him not to regret it later."
Her voice was steady, but her fingers trembled slightly.
"He’s the one who walked away. He broke his promises. He showed me exactly how ruthless he can be. I’m done holding on. He’s free now—free to be the Nathan Goldmann he was before me. We’re nothing to each other anymore."
Oliver opened his mouth, then closed it. There was nothing left to say.
He collected the signed papers and left without another word.
Evelyn sat motionless on the edge of the bed long after he was gone. The pain in her chest was unbearable, as if someone had plunged a knife into her heart and twisted it.
Nathan had pulled himself out of the wreckage of their love. But she was still drowning in it, sinking deeper with every breath.
Days later, after confirming both Evelyn and the baby were healthy, Richard Vanderbilt completed her discharge paperwork.
Chloe Lawson waited outside in the car. Richard loaded Evelyn’s belongings into the trunk before turning to her. "Zoe, let’s go home."
Evelyn nodded. Just as she was about to step into the car, an eerie sensation prickled the back of her neck.
She turned sharply—and locked eyes with a masked woman standing a short distance away, staring intently at her.
