Chapter 473

Evelyn froze.

Even with half of the woman's face obscured by a mask, the icy glint in her eyes and the sinister aura radiating from her told Evelyn exactly who she was.

Rosalind.

Wasn't she in Stoslo? When did she come back?

"Zoe?" Richard called out when he noticed she hadn’t gotten into the car, her gaze fixed on something in the distance.

Evelyn turned to him, her voice barely above a whisper. "I think I just saw—"

But when she looked back, the woman was gone.

Richard followed her line of sight, but there was no one there. "Who did you see?"

Evelyn hesitated before murmuring, "Nothing."

Did I imagine it?

Rosalind was supposed to be in Stoslo. Nathan knew everything she had done—would she really dare to return?

Evelyn doubted it.

Still, unease settled in her chest as she climbed into the car. Chloe started the engine, and they pulled away from the curb.

But the moment the car began moving, a sharp, foreboding dread coiled in Evelyn’s stomach. Something wasn’t right.

Her fingers brushed over her abdomen before drifting to the ring on her finger—the one she still couldn’t bring herself to remove.

Slowly, she slid it off.

Sunlight streamed through the window, glinting off the diamond’s facets.

Then—

Boom!

The world spun violently.

Pain exploded through her body, sharp and all-consuming. A metallic taste filled her mouth.

Her ears rang.

Something warm trickled down her legs.

She tried to move, but her limbs refused to obey.

"Dad…" she choked out weakly.

Her vision blurred as she forced her eyes open.

Richard lay motionless beside her, blood seeping from a wound on his temple.

Her heart stuttered.

Footsteps crunched against broken glass.

The car door was wrenched open.

Hands grabbed her, dragging her out.

"No!" She fought weakly, reaching for her father.

But it was too late.

From the corner of her eye, she saw Chloe’s limp hand dangling from the driver’s seat.

Her lifeless eyes stared back, unseeing.

"Save them!" Evelyn screamed, her voice raw.

She tried to lunge forward, but the person behind her yanked her back.

Then—

Boom!

The car erupted into flames.

Heat seared her skin.

The fire swallowed everything—her father, Chloe, the wreckage.

Evelyn collapsed to the ground, her body wracked with sobs.

Darkness swallowed her whole.

At the Goldmann Mansion

"Zoe!" Nathan jolted awake, coughing violently.

"Young master, you're awake!" Alfred rushed in, relief flooding his features. He immediately called for the doctor.

By the time the physician arrived, Theodore and Oliver had already entered the room.

Theodore hurried to Nathan’s bedside. "How are you feeling?"

Nathan coughed again, his voice hoarse. "How long was I out?"

Oliver answered grimly, "A week, Mr. Goldmann."

Nathan’s jaw tightened.

A week.

The doctor checked his temperature and nodded. "His fever has broken."

Theodore exhaled in relief. Then, hesitantly, he said, "Evelyn… has already signed the divorce papers."

Nathan’s fingers curled into fists.

She signed it.

Good.

But the satisfaction was hollow.

Before he could speak, a bodyguard burst into the room, his face ashen.

"Elder Master Goldmann! Oliver! Something terrible has happened!"
