Chapter 484

Sophia was about to reply when her phone was suddenly snatched away. She gasped. "Lucas, give that back!"

She lunged for it, but Lucas dodged effortlessly. Spotting her frustration, he smirked and raised the phone higher.

At 6'2", he towered over her. "Try jumping for it, short stuff," he teased, his voice dripping with amusement.

Sophia's temper flared. Without warning, she kicked his knee—hard.

Lucas staggered, caught off guard, and dropped to one knee with a sharp curse. His eyes burned with irritation as he glared up at her. "Sophia!"

She snatched her phone back and took several quick steps away, grinning triumphantly. "Maybe next time you won't underestimate me."

Lucas stood, dusting off his pants with a dark chuckle. "Fine. But remember this when you need my help." With that, he turned and stormed off.

As soon as he was gone, Sophia hurriedly typed a reply to Evelyn’s message—only to freeze when another notification popped up. Her breath hitched.

That afternoon, a rental car pulled up outside the imposing gates of the Goldmann estate. Sophia stepped out, staring up at the sprawling mansion that resembled a royal palace.

Yet despite its grandeur, the place felt eerily silent.

She exhaled sharply, frustration bubbling inside her. The Goldmann estate had always been heavily guarded, but now? It was practically a fortress.

Sure enough, a security guard intercepted her the moment she approached. "Who are you here to see, miss?"

Sophia forced a bright smile. "I need to speak with Mr. Goldmann."

The guard’s expression turned skeptical.

She quickly amended, "Or Oliver Lawson, if that’s easier."

If she couldn’t see Nathan, maybe his assistant would do.

The guards exchanged glances. One pressed a finger to his earpiece and murmured something before turning back to her. "Your name?"

"Sophia Hill."

The man stepped aside, speaking low into his comm. "Mr. Lawson, a Ms. Sophia Hill is here to see you."

Oliver paused, glancing at Nathan, who sat at his desk, impeccably dressed, his focus never wavering from the documents in front of him.

No reaction.

Oliver hesitated, then spoke into the comm. "I’ll handle it."

He descended the grand staircase moments later, finding Sophia waiting just inside the gates. "What brings you here, Ms. Hill?"

Sophia fidgeted, suddenly awkward. "I, uh… just wanted to check on Mr. Goldmann. How is he?"

Oliver’s eyes narrowed. "Did Evelyn send you?"

Sophia stiffened, her face betraying her guilt. "No! I just… wanted to know."

Oliver saw right through her. He exhaled sharply. "Tell Evelyn to stop asking about Mr. Goldmann."

Sophia’s jaw clenched. "You’re right. They’re divorced. It’s not like she cares if he lives or dies. I shouldn’t have come."

She spun on her heel and marched away, fists clenched.

Evelyn didn’t need to know anything.
