Chapter 65
Vivian's breath hitched. That witch always kept her promises.
Her nails dug into her palms. "That can't be right. If they're dead, then—"
"No, it can't be!" Laura grabbed her arm, panic lacing her voice. "She made it crystal clear. If those brats die, she'll expose everything from six years ago to Nathan Goldmann. And don't forget—she knows he's the man from that night now."
Vivian's jaw clenched.
Damn it!
She had only meant to threaten Evelyn, but now everything was spiraling out of control.
"Maybe... maybe I should go to Nathan myself," Vivian muttered, pacing. "If I break the news to him first and convince him to search for them, he might not suspect me."
Laura nodded eagerly. "Do it. Now."
Liam and Daisy stared at the lavish spread on the Goldmann mansion's dining table, their eyes wide.
For the first time, they understood what it meant to have everything at their fingertips.
"Mister," Daisy blurted, pointing at the long table, "do you always eat this much food alone?"
Nathan, seated at the head, sliced his steak with effortless grace. "No. This is just for you two today."
He wasn’t one for extravagance, but he refused to let them feel anything less than welcome.
Oliver approached, bending to murmur something in his ear.
Nathan stilled. His expression darkened as he set down his silverware. "Kids, enjoy your meal. I’ll be back."
Liam and Daisy exchanged wary glances as Nathan and Oliver stepped away.
Nathan took the phone from Oliver, his voice low. "What did you find in Cornelia?"
"Mr. Goldmann, we caught a man lurking outside the Bureau of Justice. After interrogation, he confessed—Laura Scott hired him."
Laura Scott. Vivian’s mother.
Nathan’s grip tightened. "Keep watching for anyone suspicious until we have full confirmation."
He handed the phone back, his gaze distant. "I don’t think Vivian was the woman from six years ago."
Oliver stiffened. "Should we reopen the investigation?"
"Find the manager who worked at the Empyrean Hotel that night," Nathan said coldly. "I want answers."
Vivian arrived at the Goldmann mansion, her stomach in knots.
She hadn’t seen Nathan since her failed attempt to seduce him—an embarrassment that still burned. The maids’ smirks haunted her.
Just wait until I’m the lady of this house. I’ll make those servants regret every snicker.
But as she reached the entrance, her blood ran cold.
Oliver and Mr. Chester were ushering Liam and Daisy out.
Vivian’s smile froze.
Liam’s eyes darkened the moment he saw her, his glare dripping with disgust.
Her nails bit into her palms, but she forced a sweet tone. "Oh, thank goodness you’re safe! I heard about the kidnapping—I was so worried!"
Liam scoffed. "Do we know you?"
Her eye twitched. This little bastard dares to humiliate me?
Then Nathan stepped out, his expression icy. "What are you doing here?"
Vivian bit her lip, summoning tears. "Nathan, I came to see you. When I heard about the children, I—I had to make sure they were okay."
