Chapter 110

A bone-chilling cold surged through Evelyn's veins, freezing her blood solid.

She stared blankly at the smirking man before her. In the dim light, he resembled Lucifer himself, cloaked entirely in darkness.

So this was his true desire - to witness her demise.

"Alexander, you'll soon get your wish."

"May you remain this composed when that day comes."

Yet as the thought of leaving this world forever took root, an unexpected reluctance blossomed in her chest.

After everything, she still carried feelings for him.

Hot tears spilled down Evelyn's cheeks, their warmth powerless against the ice in her heart.

"Tears now? Another pathetic performance?" Alexander sneered.

His long fingers gripped her chin, forcing her gaze upward. "Do you think I'm as easily fooled as other men? Your face has healed - why still hide behind bandages? Save your theatrics. They only disgust me!"

As the words left his lips, crimson stains began blooming through the gauze where her tears had fallen.

Alexander's expression shifted instantly. He tore the bandages away, revealing the raw, weeping wound beneath.

The sight struck him like a physical blow. His earlier mockery turned to ashes in his mouth.

"Give those back!" Evelyn snatched the bloodied gauze with trembling hands. "Don't look! Stop staring!"

Clutching her injured cheek, she staggered upright using the wall for support.

Alexander stood frozen as Evelyn fled the room.

Her weakened body swayed dangerously on the staircase. Blood mingled with tears, dripping between her fingers, each drop draining more color from her pallid face.

An internal fire raged through her veins, consuming what little life remained.

Outside, snowflakes drifted down, intensifying the cold seeping into Evelyn's bones.

Her vision blurred as cherished memories surfaced - happier times before everything shattered.

'If only we could have stayed in those golden moments... No separations. No reunions. No torment.'

Her legs finally gave out near a snow-dusted bench. Crimson droplets stained the pristine white.

Through the haze, she heard Alexander shouting her name. Saw him sprinting toward her in panic, gathering her into his arms.

The warmth of his embrace transported her back to another lifetime - when he'd carried her injured form with such tenderness. Nestled against his chest, she'd whispered shyly, "Alex, I want to be with you forever..."

When consciousness returned, daylight streamed through the windows. The first sensation was the searing pain in her cheek.

She moved to touch it, only to find her hand trapped. Turning, she discovered Alexander sharing her narrow hospital bed.

The realization jolted her fully awake. Alexander Blackwood, squeezed onto this tiny bed with her?

His handsome features rested mere inches away, his breath warm against her skin. Her pulse quickened dangerously.

She turned away sharply, yet couldn't ignore his steady breathing at her ear, nor the heat radiating from his broad chest pressed against her back.
