Chapter 130

Evelyn gasped for air, her face flushed crimson as she forced a bitter smile. "Alexander, do you even understand what true remorse feels like?"

Her voice trembled. "When you were dreaming earlier, did you see our child? Has your conscience ever ached for what you did?" She stared into his conflicted eyes, searching for any trace of regret.

"That child was never mine." His jaw clenched, his icy gaze burning into her, yet a flicker of uncertainty lingered beneath.

Evelyn laughed, tears spilling onto Alexander’s hands.

The heat of her tears seared his skin, forcing him to release her throat abruptly. He turned away, discomfort twisting his features as he started the car.

"If you value your life, stop provoking me."

Evelyn inhaled sharply, swallowing her words.

For now, she needed to stay alive. She had to witness Victoria’s downfall with her own eyes.

Alexander dragged Evelyn to the hospital against her will. Victoria was in the VIP ward, her muffled sobs echoing through the door. The moment Evelyn arrived, Margaret blocked her path.

"You vile creature!" Margaret hissed, jabbing a finger at her. "Why are you here? To finish what you started? Do you think Victoria hasn’t suffered enough?"

Evelyn’s gaze flickered to Alexander. "I didn’t ask to come. My husband insisted."

Alexander’s jaw tightened at her subtle smirk, but he didn’t deny it.

Just then, Eleanor stormed out of the ward. The moment she saw Evelyn, pure hatred flashed in her eyes.

"What are you doing here?" Eleanor spat. "First, you murdered Sophia, and now you’re trying to kill my only remaining daughter? Evelyn, you’re despicable! I can only imagine what kind of monsters raised someone like you!"

Evelyn’s heart twisted. What kind of parents…

She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Mrs. Kingsley, I didn’t kill Sophia. The real murderer is—"

"Are you seriously blaming Victoria now?" Eleanor roared. "She tried to take her own life because of you!"

"Mom, don’t blame Evelyn…" Victoria’s frail voice drifted from inside. "It’s my fault… Just let me die. I’m so tired…"

Alexander shot Evelyn one last unreadable glance before rushing into the ward. Eleanor followed, casting Evelyn a final glare of loathing.

Evelyn moved to enter, but Margaret shoved her back. "You think you have the right to step foot in there? You’re nothing!"

Evelyn met her gaze steadily. "You know exactly who I am."

Margaret faltered, momentarily speechless.

Satisfied, Evelyn turned to leave—until Eleanor’s gentle voice stopped her cold.

"Victoria, my darling, don’t say such things. To me, you’re the purest soul in this world. That shameless, wicked woman stole the man you loved, destroyed your child, and now she’s destroying you. I will make her pay."

Evelyn’s legs locked in place, weighed down by the words.

She stood there, frozen, as Eleanor’s verdict echoed in her ears.

A shameless, wicked woman.
