Chapter 141
Alexander's expression turned glacial. "Evelyn, I'm telling you to sign the papers."
"I refuse," Evelyn finally responded, her voice eerily calm.
Alexander watched as she sat motionless before him, her gaze distant, refusing to meet his eyes. The deliberate avoidance stoked the fire of his anger. "Evelyn, don't test my patience. You know what happens when you do."
When faced with his threats, Evelyn didn't flinch. Instead, a faint smile curved her lips.
"Alexander, I'll say this one last time—I won't sign your divorce papers. If you're so desperate to marry Victoria, go ahead. Just know I'll sue you for bigamy the moment you do."
"Evelyn Sinclair!" Alexander's fury erupted. "I'll ask you one final time—are you signing or not?"
"No." Her voice was steel.
His face darkened. Seeing her defiance, her refusal to even look at him, he strode forward, seized her wrist, and forced the pen into her hand. His grip was unrelenting.
"Alexander, let me go!" She struggled against him.
"You refused to sign? Then I'll do it for you." His icy whisper beside her ear felt like a death sentence.
Evelyn fought with all her strength, but every movement sent waves of agony through her—her worsening tumor, her heart, everything screamed in protest.
"Alexander, you monster! I swear, even if I die, I won't let you and Victoria have your happy ending!" With a desperate shove, she broke free and turned to flee.
Blindness made every step treacherous.
She hadn't gone far before she tripped, crashing hard onto the floor. Pain radiated through her body.
Before she could rise, Alexander's imposing figure loomed over her, casting a suffocating shadow.
Evelyn couldn't see him, but she felt his presence—cold, merciless.
Unaware of her blindness, he pressed a knee into her back and thrust the divorce papers before her, tossing the pen down.
"Evelyn, don't make this harder than it needs to be. Sign like a good girl, and I'll make sure you're compensated."
"I don't want your money!"
"Then what do you want?" His voice dripped with scorn. "Do you still foolishly believe I have feelings for you?"
His words froze her.
"Evelyn, listen carefully. I never liked you. Never loved you. Not even a little."
Each syllable was a blade, carving into her heart.
A dull ache spread through her chest, the metallic tang of blood rising in her throat.
"Stop wasting my time. Sign, and I'll leave to prepare for my engagement with Victoria. If you refuse, think about your grandfather's ashes."
A bitter laugh escaped her. Her sightless eyes, already red and wet, burned with unshed tears.
"Fine. I'll sign."
At last, she relented. Blindly, she groped for the pen, swallowing the blood in her mouth.
"Alexander, you'll finally get what you want. From now on, we're nothing to each other."
Her words sent an inexplicable chill through him. His pulse stuttered, an unfamiliar sensation twisting in his chest.
He watched as she struggled, her left hand fumbling over the papers. Minutes passed, yet she still hadn't signed.
"Evelyn, are you playing games again?"
Her lips curled into a broken smile. "Mr. Blackwood, I'm blind. I can't see."
"Blind?" He scoffed, convinced it was another lie. "Fine. If you're blind, I'll guide you."
