Chapter 147
"Get away from her!"
Alexander's roar cut through the air like a blade. He surged forward, scooping Evelyn into his arms before she could collapse further. Blood stained his pristine white shirt, the metallic scent thick in the air as he flagged down a cab.
Olivia stood frozen for a heartbeat before snapping into motion, chasing after them.
Victoria and Eleanor rushed out as well, but they were too late—Alexander had already vanished into the cab with Evelyn.
Olivia clenched her fists, nails biting into her palms. Without hesitation, she hailed another cab and followed.
The emergency room's harsh fluorescent lights cast long shadows over the waiting area. Alexander sat motionless, his expression unreadable.
Evelyn's warmth still lingered against his skin, her scent clinging to him. But the blood—so much of it—had seeped into his clothes, a grotesque reminder of what had just happened.
He closed his eyes, her last words echoing in his mind.
"Alexander Blackwood, you heartless monster!"
Olivia's furious scream shattered the silence. Alexander lifted his gaze slowly, his eyes dark and dangerous, like a predator sizing up its prey.
But Olivia didn’t flinch. Tears streamed down her face as she glared at him.
"Alexander, if you don’t love Evelyn, fine. But why torture her like this?"
Her voice cracked. "Three years ago wasn’t her fault! She was framed! Why punish her for something she didn’t do?"
Olivia stepped closer, her chest heaving. "She gave you everything—her love, her loyalty—and you accused her of being unfaithful. You denied your own child!"
Her next words struck like a knife. "If she didn’t love you, why would she risk her life to protect that baby? But you—you destroyed everything!"
Alexander’s jaw tightened, but he remained silent.
Victoria stormed forward, her face twisted in outrage. "How dare you speak to my fiancé like that? Evelyn got what she deserved!"
Olivia scoffed. "The only one who deserves anything is you, Victoria. You scheming, two-faced witch!"
Victoria’s hand flew up, but Alexander caught her wrist before the slap could land.
"Alexander—" she whined, eyes brimming with crocodile tears. "I won’t let anyone disrespect you like this."
He ignored her, his focus locked on Olivia. "Go on," he said, voice low.
Olivia met his gaze, unflinching. "You’ll regret this, Alexander. Mark my words."
The weight of her words pressed against his chest, making it hard to breathe.
Then—the emergency room doors swung open.
A nurse stepped out, her expression grim. "Family of the patient?"
Alexander was on his feet instantly. "I’m her husband. How is she?"
The nurse hesitated, then sighed. "The tumor has progressed rapidly. She’s unconscious, and the doctors are doing everything they can, but..." She trailed off, handing him a clipboard. "You should prepare yourself. The chances are slim. Sign here, please."
Alexander’s fingers trembled as he took the pen.
