Chapter 489
Evelyn's gaze was glacial as it clashed with Alexander's warm one.
"If you have any decency left, Alexander, you'll return my child to me."
"Is this what you wanted to discuss?" Alexander's lips twisted into a bitter smile. "Ethan can't lose his father just because he has his mother now."
"Father?" Evelyn let out a scornful laugh, her eyes burning with contempt. "Does your conscience not ache, Alexander? You've done nothing to deserve being called Ethan's father."
"..." Alexander pressed his lips together, silent.
Evelyn stepped closer, her slender frame radiating coldness as she faced the tall man.
"Do you even remember what you forced me to take every time you were done with me? Contraceptives. You told me a woman as wretched as me would never be worthy of bearing your children. Do you recall that?"
"..." Alexander's sharp brows furrowed at her words.
"I was already carrying your child when Victoria lured you to the hospital with her fake suicide attempt. I was foolish enough to believe my pregnancy might salvage what was left between us—but instead, you threw those pills at me before I could even tell you."
Alexander's eyes widened in shock.
"You were pregnant then?"
"I was. With Ethan. But what does it matter? You never cared!"
Her voice trembled with suppressed fury.
"You couldn't even face me to say it yourself—you texted me about the divorce. You called our child a bastard. You told me to get rid of him because I wasn't fit to be his mother, and that Victoria was the only woman worthy of bearing your heirs. You even threatened to kill him yourself if I didn't obey."
Her nails dug into her palms.
"You called your own son a bastard, Alexander Blackwood. How dare you call yourself his father now?"
She inhaled sharply, forcing her emotions down before locking her fiery gaze onto his.
"I begged you. I begged for a chance to love you, for our child's sake. But what did I get in return? Humiliation. Scars that will never fade."
"..."
Alexander felt his blood turn to ice.
His throat tightened as he stared at her icy expression. His chest ached, but his mind was blank.
When had he ever sent her such messages?
When had she begged him for love?
None of this made sense.
He knew Evelyn wouldn't lie about this. Which meant only one thing—someone had used his name to destroy her.
Snow began to drift from the darkening sky.
Evelyn wiped away the moisture at the corners of her eyes with a scoff.
"The pain of giving birth to Ethan is something I'll never be able to put into words, Alexander. And I won't waste my breath trying. Our divorce was final three years ago. Ethan is my son, and I will fight for him until the end."
She turned to leave.
Alexander caught her wrist, but before he could speak, she shot him a look so cold it froze him in place.
"All you ever did was push me away. And when I was broken beyond repair, you left me alone in the dark."
