Chapter 49
Evelyn's gaze dimmed with despair. The ring glinting on Victoria's finger was unmistakable - her own original design!
"Evelyn, you're quite talented," Victoria taunted, admiring the jewelry. "This piece is exquisite. But what truly matters is that Alexander placed it on my finger himself."
She twirled the ring ostentatiously, smug satisfaction radiating from her every pore.
Evelyn's fingers curled into tight fists, her phone recording every damning word. Through gritted teeth, she forced a smile.
"Victoria, are you actually admitting to framing me for plagiarism when this was clearly my creation?"
Victoria scoffed. "What if I did? Who would believe you over me? You're nothing compared to me."
"Enough." Evelyn's lips twisted in a bitter smile as she turned away abruptly.
A flicker of unease crossed Victoria's face as she registered Evelyn's strange behavior. By the time realization struck, Evelyn had already slipped into her car.
Within hours, the explosive video went viral across social media platforms.
Victoria's face appeared crystal clear in the footage, every arrogant word preserved in digital perpetuity. Evelyn watched as netizens reacted with shock, then outrage at the injustice she'd suffered.
She'd been falsely accused all along.
But soon, the tide of public opinion shifted dangerously.
Comments flooded in defending Victoria - claiming she'd been provoked by Evelyn causing her miscarriage. That her actions were understandable, even forgivable.
What was plagiarism compared to losing a child?
Evelyn closed her eyes against the painful irony. She'd not only lost her reputation, but her precious daughter too. Yet who cared about her suffering?
Returning home, Evelyn spotted the sleek luxury car parked conspicuously outside her building.
The door swung open as she approached.
Alexander emerged like a storm cloud, his towering frame radiating icy elegance. His mere presence made Evelyn's breath catch.
She instinctively stepped back, but he blocked her path. His mesmerizing eyes glinted with dangerous intensity.
"So what if Victoria bribed officials to accuse you? You only lost your reputation," he spat. "But Victoria lost our child! What were you trying to achieve with that video? Haven't you hurt her enough?"
"You only lost your reputation."
The words landed like blows, each syllable dripping with contempt for her and unwavering defense of Victoria.
Evelyn's vision blurred with unshed tears. She met his gaze defiantly. "You're right. It's not enough."
Her fists clenched until her nails bit into her palms.
"That bitch will suffer a living hell even if it sends me back to prison for life!"
Evelyn lifted her chin, her red-rimmed eyes blazing with unbroken resolve.
She moved to leave, but Alexander's iron grip seized her wrist. His expression darkened ominously.
"Evelyn," he warned in a voice like frozen steel, "don't test my patience. Or I'll ensure you rot in prison forever."
Her heart pounded with fear she refused to show. Summoning every ounce of strength, she flashed a reckless grin despite the agony coursing through her.
"Do whatever makes you happy, Mr. Blackwood. I don't have long anyway. But I promise you this - I'll drag that viper down with me before I go."
