Chapter 68

The tension in the car thickened instantly. Evelyn let out a bitter, exhausted laugh.

"Alexander, even if you refuse to believe me, what about your grandfather? He’s a man of wisdom, with decades of experience. If I were truly the monster you think I am, why would he have approved our marriage? Why would he show me kindness while treating Victoria with indifference?"

She had hoped Alexander might reconsider, but the moment the words left her lips, he scoffed.

"You know exactly why you married into this family and why Victoria is treated the way she is."

His implication was clear—he believed Evelyn had manipulated Henry Blackwood’s feelings, turning him against Victoria.

Yet he never stopped to question whether a woman like Victoria, who had willingly become the other woman, was truly blameless.

"Evelyn, enough with the act. We’re going to see Grandfather now. Let him see the real you."

Evelyn’s smile turned hollow. She was tired of defending herself.

Her entire existence had been reduced to a lie—one so twisted, it was beyond redemption.

Alexander dragged her back to Blackwood Estate, forcing her into the grand living room.

Henry Blackwood sat rigidly in his chair, his expression unreadable.

Victoria wept softly in the corner, while Margaret Blackwood comforted her with gentle murmurs.

The moment Margaret spotted Evelyn, she shot to her feet, finger jabbing accusingly.

"Evelyn! How could you be so heartless? Attacking an innocent child—what has Victoria ever done to deserve this?"

Her voice rose, sharp with fury.

"Three years ago, you stole Alexander from her with your scheming ways. And now this? You’re nothing but a vicious, calculating witch!"

She raised her hand, ready to strike.

Evelyn braced herself—but then, Henry’s voice cut through the room like steel.

"Enough."

Margaret froze, disbelief flashing across her face. She hadn’t expected Henry to intervene.

Neither had Evelyn.

"Father, how can you still defend her? Anyone with eyes can see what she’s done!" Margaret’s voice trembled with outrage. "If it weren’t for her, Victoria would be your rightful granddaughter-in-law. She gave us a grandson, yet she suffers while this woman walks free. You must stand up for her!"

Victoria’s sobs grew louder, her delicate fingers wiping at her tears.

"Mr. Blackwood, I don’t expect to be welcomed into this family. I had Ethan out of love for Alexander. I don’t want to argue with Evelyn—I just beg you to make her stop hurting your great-grandson."

Her words were a masterstroke of manipulation. Margaret looked near tears, her heart breaking for Victoria.

Evelyn wanted to laugh. She glanced at Alexander—only to find his cold gaze already fixed on her.

She quickly looked away.

Then, Henry let out a derisive snort.

"Great-grandson?" His tone dripped with sarcasm. "The only great-grandson I recognize will be the one Evelyn gives me. She is the lawful wife of this family."

Silence.

The air in the room turned to ice.

No one had seen this coming.
