Chapter 96
Evelyn threw herself into Alexander's arms, trembling violently as she perfectly played the role of the victim once more.
She had used this same tired act countless times before, yet he still fell for it without hesitation.
All eyes turned to Evelyn Sinclair with contempt and suspicion. Though accustomed to such judgmental stares, she could never grow immune to the murderous chill in Alexander's gaze.
That face she had once loved so deeply now held none of its former tenderness. As Alexander cradled Victoria protectively, his icy glare stabbed through Evelyn like a dagger. "Evelyn. Sinclair!"
He spat out her name through clenched teeth, each syllable dripping with venom.
A bone-chilling cold spread from Evelyn's feet to her entire body. The hatred in his eyes was terrifying.
Victoria sobbed dramatically against Alexander's chest. "How could Evelyn be so heartless? She told me she'd been pregnant too, that her baby died in prison. Having known motherhood, how could she be so cruel to another mother?" Her tear-filled eyes accused Evelyn.
"Evelyn, stop this madness! Do you want your child and grandfather to never rest in peace?" Alexander threatened.
At the mention of her lost loved ones, Evelyn's fists clenched. With sudden strength, her frail body lunged at Victoria.
She grabbed Victoria's collar, shaking her violently. "How dare you speak of my grandfather and child! You're the one who should have died, Victoria! You're the real monster here!"
"Alexander! My face! It hurts!" Victoria shrieked dramatically.
The outburst caught everyone off guard. Alexander hadn't expected Evelyn's sudden fury. It took considerable force to pry her away and shield Victoria in his arms.
Evelyn stumbled back, her spine slamming against the wall. The impact left her doubled over in pain.
Alexander cradled the weeping Victoria, turning to leave. His final glare at Evelyn was like a poisoned arrow aimed straight for her heart.
Physically and emotionally shattered, Evelyn had no strength left to defend herself. She turned away as the crowd's curses followed her.
On her way home, Evelyn's tumor flared with agonizing pain. Her trembling hands fumbled for painkillers when suddenly, a black sedan screeched to a halt before her.
A hulking man emerged, grabbing Evelyn roughly. "Let me go!" she screamed, her pain intensifying with each struggle.
Forced into the car, Evelyn looked up to meet Alexander's glacial stare. Dressed in a sleek black coat, he radiated cold hostility.
Spotting the painkillers, Alexander snatched them away. Seeing the label, he sneered. "So you do know pain, Evelyn? When you stabbed my son and tormented Victoria, did you consider their suffering?"
With a flick of his wrist, he tossed the medication out the window.
Evelyn paled as tumor pain stole her breath. "Drive," Alexander commanded, and the car accelerated.
Though unsure of their destination, Evelyn endured the agony while studying Alexander's stony profile. "Alexander, I know you won't believe me, but I didn't hurt your son. It was Victoria who—"
"Silence!" he roared, his glare murderous. "Another word and I'll throw you from this moving car."
