Chapter 559
Natalie Beaumont's hands shook as she picked up the car keys and the shattered pieces of her jade pendant. Her heart ached with every breath.
Evelyn Sinclair frowned. She knew how much that pendant meant to Natalie.
"What did you do?"
The supporting actress froze, her gaze dropping to the floor with annoyance and disdain. "It was an accident."
She turned to leave without another word.
"An accident makes it okay?" Natalie's eyes burned red. "So I deserved this?"
The actress rolled her eyes. "How much does it cost? My boyfriend will pay for it."
Evelyn's brows furrowed deeper. "You can't even apologize?"
Recognition flashed in the actress's eyes when she saw Evelyn. She swallowed her retort.
She hesitated, biting her lip. Apologizing shouldn't be hard, but this woman was being so dramatic.
"Lil E, you know me. Your brother will handle this, just drop it."
Evelyn's expression darkened instantly. Her voice turned icy. "What did you just call me?"
For a heartbeat, her gaze turned arctic.
Lil E?
Only her closest family and friends used that nickname.
How dare this nobody actress call her that?
The actress paled, confused by Evelyn's reaction but knowing better than to argue. "That's what I heard your brother call you."
Evelyn's tone could freeze hell. "He's family. You're not."
The words crushed the actress's pride. Her eyes welled up.
At that moment, Lucas Sterling walked in.
"What's going on?"
The actress immediately clung to Lucas, whining in a pitiful voice. "It was an accident! I just dropped her things. She's Lil—your sister's friend."
Lucas's face darkened when he saw Natalie crouched on the floor, cradling the broken pendant. Everyone close to Natalie knew it was the last gift from her late grandmother.
An irreplaceable heirloom.
"You can buy her a new one. It's just some cheap jade—"
"Shut up!" Lucas snapped.
He approached Evelyn, who deliberately looked away, refusing to intervene.
After a tense silence, Lucas knelt beside Natalie. His hand hovered over her hair before gently stroking it.
Natalie's shoulders trembled with silent sobs. He froze, unsure what to say. Natalie was always so strong—except when it came to her grandmother.
Natalie suddenly stood, her eyes clear despite the tears. "I have work. I need to go."
She gathered the fragments and walked away without looking back.
Lucas moved to follow, but Evelyn stopped him.
"Lucas, your girlfriend isn't just ugly—she's rotten. She broke Natalie's things and didn't even apologize. Who does she think she is?"
The actress shrank back, shocked by Evelyn's bluntness.
Lucas's expression turned glacial. His gaze pinned the actress in place.
"But I—" she stammered.
Lucas cut her off coldly. "A car will take you home. Felicity Chambers is replacing you in the film."
Felicity was her biggest rival. This was career suicide.
As Lucas walked away, the actress scrambled after him, begging and pleading.
Evelyn rolled her eyes. Served her right.
She called Natalie, who answered immediately.
"Nikki, I'm fine. Just back at the office. See you soon?"
Evelyn told her what Lucas had done, hoping to cheer her up. Natalie's breathing steadied, her voice lighter.
"At least your brother isn't completely blind."
After hanging up, Natalie received a text from Lucas.
[Jules, I'll have an exact replica made for you.]
She left it unanswered.
