Chapter 617
Nathan Blackwood saved Evelyn Sinclair, yet he still hadn't broken his infuriating habit.
"Huh, renting out the entire city's LED screens to thank him? He just wants everyone to know our relationship isn't ordinary, right?" Evelyn rolled her eyes internally.
Isabella Montgomery smirked. "But that woman had the nerve to spike your drink! Do you need my help to teach her a lesson?"
Evelyn smiled faintly, her mind already made up.
The punishment would be far worse than just kicking her out of the entertainment industry.
Isabella grinned. "Good job!"
After hanging up, Evelyn felt a pang of hunger, but Dominic Kingsley messaged the group to gather at the venue immediately.
She rolled her eyes. "Ugh. Dominic really knows how to exploit people."
Slowly, she made her way to the hotel entrance. Everyone else had already left in their cars.
Dominic, at least, had the decency to wait for her at the door.
Evelyn shot him a dark look before sliding into the car.
He handed her a neatly packaged sandwich and milk.
Her expression softened as she took a bite.
"Didn't you have to wait in line for this?"
Dominic shrugged. "Nathan asked me to give it to you."
Evelyn froze.
How did he know she loved sandwiches from this particular shop?
A flicker of warmth stirred in her chest—until she remembered the astronomical sum she'd spent on those citywide LED screens.
Suddenly, the sandwich didn't taste as good.
"This must be a coincidence," she muttered.
Dominic sighed enviously. "Mr. Blackwood has such patience. He personally brought you breakfast—I heard he even goes to buy it himself!"
Evelyn shot him a cold sidelong glance.
Dominic swallowed hard, guilt creeping into his voice. "Actually... Sadie and Giselle came to me last night. I might have mentioned Nathan was staying in the penthouse suite..."
Evelyn stiffened.
Her gaze turned icy.
So that was why.
She chewed slowly, then let out a cold laugh. "You're quite the busybody, aren't you?"
Of all people, Dominic had to be the one stirring trouble?
"If I'd known, I wouldn't have stayed in that suite," she muttered.
This was worse than a nightmare.
Thankfully, it was just a hallucinogen. If it had been something else... the consequences would have been unthinkable.
Any sympathy she'd had for Giselle being exiled to some remote corner of Africa vanished instantly.
She deserved it.
Dominic rubbed his nose nervously. "I just wanted to see Nathan's reaction. Did he really kick them out over this?"
Nathan didn’t need Dominic’s permission for his decisions, so he’d only been informed after the fact.
"How would I know?" Evelyn sneered. "Ask him yourself."
At that moment, she seriously considered tossing Dominic into the middle of the Pacific to fend for himself.
Dominic thought grimly, If I dared ask him, would I even need to ask her?
On the way to the venue, Dominic fussed over Evelyn like a nervous servant, terrified of what Nathan might do to him later.
They finally arrived at the shooting location—an entire office floor Dominic had rented at great expense.
Equipment and cameras were already set up.
Vivian Lockwood, Seraphina Devereux, and Xavier Delmont had arrived early.
Vivian had dressed sharply in a formal business suit, while Seraphina opted for a curve-hugging dress that left little to the imagination.
As Evelyn stepped inside, she felt uncomfortably warm and instinctively shrugged off her jacket, handing it to Xavier, who stood nearby trying to look chivalrous.
He reached for it—only for a pair of slender hands to intercept it a second later.
