Chapter 705
Evelyn Sinclair lifted her gaze. Her striking features carried an icy elegance that seemed carved into her very bones. Seated across from Alexandra Montgomery, who stood rigidly, the contrast between them was stark—like fire and frost.
"Alexandra," Evelyn began, her voice smooth but edged with steel. "Let's not pretend you earned your place here. With your qualifications, Sterling Enterprises would never have hired you. I allowed you this internship out of courtesy—nothing more. But if you continue acting entitled, I'll ensure no company in this city touches you after I fire you."
A faint smile played on Evelyn's lips, as though discussing the weather. Alexandra, however, paled. The threat was unmistakable.
Yet, for once, Alexandra had no retort. She pressed her lips together, fingers tightening around her bag.
"Evelyn, I was hired through standard procedures. My credentials are legitimate—"
Evelyn cut her off with a scoff. She snatched Alexandra's resume from the desk and tossed it at her.
"Legitimate?" Evelyn arched a brow. "You claimed you interned at a Fortune 50 company, but when I called, they'd never heard of you. You listed yourself as a key contributor to a university research project, yet your professor said you quit after a week because you couldn’t keep up."
Each word struck like a whip. Alexandra's face drained of color.
She hadn’t expected Evelyn to fact-check her lies.
Evelyn leaned back, cold satisfaction in her gaze. "Falsifying your resume is grounds for immediate termination. But since you're here, I'll reevaluate your performance. One misstep, and you're gone."
A pause. Then Evelyn added, almost casually, "Oh, and let’s be clear—the only reason my father tolerates you is sentimentality. Play your games with him if you must, but if I hear you spreading rumors in this office, your file will reflect exactly why no one should hire you."
Alexandra trembled, her earlier arrogance shattered. Without another word, she turned and fled.
Bennett, standing nearby, nearly applauded.
Evelyn didn’t just excel in business—she dismantled schemers like Alexandra with terrifying precision.
Once the door shut, Evelyn turned to him. "Is the meeting with Leonard Whitmore confirmed?"
"Yes. At the Aspen Lodge. Zachary Montgomery will accompany him."
Evelyn nodded. "Ensure Jonathan Reeves attends."
This dinner was for him, after all.
Bennett relayed the message immediately.
"Also," he added, "Solitaire’s pre-launch buzz is exceeding projections. Sales is ready. Barring issues, we’ll launch tomorrow as planned."
Evelyn exhaled, tension easing. Solitaire was her passion project—a culmination of meticulous planning. The hype was undeniable.
If only Nathan Blackwood hadn’t been part of it.
