Chapter 786
Giant baby?
Nathan Blackwood had been blunt, but he'd shown remarkable restraint.
If not for Reginald Blackwood's status as his grandfather, Nathan would have cursed the old man into an early grave.
Reginald shifted uncomfortably before forcing a polite smile.
"Sophia lacks proper upbringing. I'll discipline her properly, but there's one small favor I must ask of you, grandson."
"I'm not granting any favors."
Reginald plowed ahead, ignoring Nathan's refusal. "Have Evelyn Sinclair publicly clarify this was all a misunderstanding. We're practically family - surely she can forgive Sophia after some explanation. This entire mess stems from Preston Sinclair's meddling. Without him, our families wouldn't be in this position. We should be united against our common enemy—"
Nathan cut him off sharply.
"Chairman Blackwood, Evelyn didn't forgive your granddaughter for those unethical actions. She won't be coerced into accepting any apology. If Sophia was truly manipulated, let her provide evidence online. Otherwise..." Nathan's voice turned icy. "Hiring internet trolls to spread lies and slander sounds like a felony to me."
Reginald's face turned ashen. He opened his mouth to respond, but Nathan had already ended the call.
The old man gasped for air, panic setting in.
"The Sterlings won't let this go. We're lucky they haven't involved the police yet." Never in his life had Reginald been so thoroughly dismissed. Everyone knew Nathan ran Blackwood Industries now, leaving the elder Blackwood as little more than a figurehead. Who still truly respected the old patriarch these days? The realization darkened his expression further.
Twenty years ago, would Nathan have dared speak to him like this?
Sophia collapsed into hysterical sobs, her face ghostly pale. "What do we do? I can't go to jail! Our family's reputation will be ruined!"
A sharp knock interrupted them. The butler announced, "Master Nathan has arrived—"
Sophia trembled violently. "Grandfather—"
The study door burst open. Nathan stormed in, his expression thunderous. His piercing glare carried enough intensity to suffocate the room. He'd known Reginald was behind this scheme, which was why he'd stripped the old man of power - consequences be damned. But discovering Sophia's involvement? That was new information.
Nathan's investigation had uncovered Dr. Know-It-All's employer. The Blackwoods had orchestrated this shamelessly.
After so many twists, Nathan's simmering rage erupted. How foolish he'd been, thinking removing Reginald's authority would suffice as explanation to Evelyn. Instead, she'd chosen her own ruthless retaliation. Just how despicable were the Blackwoods?
Nathan's eyes glinted like shards of ice. This brainless sister of his needed to be taught a permanent lesson. His imposing frame advanced, radiating menace. Sophia froze momentarily before primal terror took hold.
"Brother, I—I know I was wrong!"
She'd assumed Reginald's involvement would protect her. Who knew the influencer she'd bribed would betray her? Damn that Dr. Know-It-All!
Sophia's legs gave out. She crumpled to the floor, scrambling onto her knees in desperate supplication.
"Brother, I only wanted to help you reconcile with Evelyn! I thought if she believed Preston dragged her into this mess, she'd cut ties with him. Then you'd have another chance!"
