Chapter 806
Evelyn arched an eyebrow.
So Reginald Blackwood was finally showing his fear—the fear that she and Nathan might reconcile.
"From what I know, Nathan isn't the type to give up easily. He's obsessed with what he can't have, but the moment he gets it, he loses interest. If you truly want him to let go, you'll need a different approach."
The old man's gaze was sharp, honed by decades of ruthless business dealings.
Evelyn's lips curved slightly. "A different approach? What exactly are you suggesting?"
"Make him watch you move on with someone else. It'll destroy him. Or strip him of his power—then he won't have the means to interfere in your life anymore."
Her smile faded as she studied Reginald.
Seeing her interest, he leaned back, satisfied. "You're close to Adrian, aren't you? If the two of you pretended to be together, Nathan would lose his mind."
Evelyn paused, her eyes narrowing. "Tell me, Mr. Blackwood—is Nathan really your grandson?"
The old man was willing to strike at Nathan's weakest point without hesitation. Ruthless.
Fascinating.
Reginald stiffened, forcing an uncomfortable smile. "Of course. I'm only thinking of both of you. If you don't make him give up, how will either of you move forward?"
Evelyn chuckled. "How considerate of you."
He took a slow sip of tea. "So, do you think my plan will work?"
"Not interested," she said bluntly.
His grip tightened on the cup. His voice darkened. "Meaning what? Don't tell me you still have feelings for him."
Evelyn smirked. "Why don't you test your theory on him yourself? Since taking over Sterling Enterprises, I've been too busy to even breathe, let alone play these childish games with you."
'Cooperate with him? Not a chance. Why would I waste my time on something so pointless?'
"This benefits you too," Reginald snapped.
"How?"
"Do you want Nathan harassing you indefinitely? You despise him, don't you?"
The implication was clear—if she helped destroy Nathan, she'd be free of him for good.
Evelyn tapped her fingers against the rim of her cup, feigning contemplation.
"Honestly, Nathan isn't the only nuisance in my life. Why should I go to such extremes? Besides, damaging relations between our families wouldn't be good for business. Don't you agree?"
Reginald hadn't expected her to be so indifferent. She was proving far more difficult than anticipated.
He exhaled sharply. "If you won't act, then at least help me remove him from power. I'll have Adrian take his place. The result will be the same—mutually beneficial."
'Interesting.' Evelyn's brows lifted. 'So Adrian is Reginald's chosen successor? He's decent, but nowhere near as capable as Nathan. Is the old man determined to ruin Blackwood Industries?'
