Chapter 818
Vivian noticed Evelyn approaching. Her gaze immediately dropped to Evelyn's injured leg, relieved to see no wine glass in her hand.
"Evelyn, how's your injury healing?" Vivian asked with genuine concern.
Evelyn offered a warm smile. "Much better, thank you."
She hesitated before adding, "Alexander mentioned you visited me at the hospital. I'm sorry my brother kept turning you away. Donovan can be... intense."
Vivian waved off the apology. "Don't worry about it. Your recovery is what matters."
The three actresses nearby offered polite greetings, which Evelyn returned with equal courtesy. An awkward silence settled over the group.
The celebrities seemed unsure how to engage with Evelyn, while she equally struggled to bridge the gap. These were women accustomed to constant admiration, yet now they appeared almost nervous around her.
Spotting an opportunity, Evelyn turned to Arabella. "Ms. Winslow, I've admired your work for years. Having you on our show is truly an honor."
Arabella, usually known for her bold personality, suddenly became flustered. She waved her hands dismissively, nearly spilling her wine. "Oh no, Ms. Sinclair, the honor is mine! Truly!"
Her crimson lips parted as she hastily raised her glass. "Let me toast to your excellent taste!" She downed the entire drink in one go while Evelyn watched in stunned silence.
Isadora fidgeted nervously beside them, while Seraphina smoothly interjected with a laugh. "Arabella, you'll scare our host! Remember she's still recovering."
"Right! No drinking!" Arabella agreed too quickly, her eyes wide.
Evelyn blinked in confusion. They'd never met before - why such deference? "Ms. Winslow, your enthusiasm is refreshing. Once I'm fully healed, we'll share a proper toast."
Noticing Evelyn's discomfort, Vivian guided her to a nearby sofa. Evelyn exhaled deeply. "Do I really seem that intimidating?" She touched her face self-consciously. She'd deliberately chosen a simple dress and understated makeup to avoid overshadowing the stars.
Vivian chuckled. "She's just nervous. After years of being blacklisted, this is Arabella's big comeback. Lucas probably warned her not to upset you."
Evelyn's eyebrows shot up. "Is my brother telling people I'm some sort of tyrant?" She shook her head in exasperation.
Changing the subject, Evelyn studied Vivian's radiant expression. "I hear your firm is booming? Booked solid?"
Vivian nodded, her eyes sparkling. "Appointments through next spring, but I'm limiting clients. Quality over quantity - the show's success just accelerated what was already happening."
Evelyn smiled approvingly. She'd never doubted Vivian's integrity or talent.
Their conversation was interrupted by approaching footsteps.
