Chapter 841
Evelyn's brow furrowed before she let out a soft chuckle. Isabella's words perfectly captured her fiery personality - brutally honest yet razor-sharp.
"Besides, maybe I was only so upset last night because I was drunk and lost that deal. Thank goodness you were there to stop me from making a complete fool of myself. Can you imagine the humiliation?"
Whether Isabella meant every word or not, Evelyn could tell her friend was genuinely trying to move on from her feelings for Alexander.
Evelyn pulled Isabella into a tight embrace. "Don't worry, I'll introduce you to someone far better! The world's full of amazing men. And let's be real - making money should be our top priority right now. Why waste time on heartbreak?"
Isabella opened her mouth but couldn't argue with Evelyn's logic.
Knowing her friend needed space to process everything, Evelyn left early for the office.
After changing into fresh clothes from her emergency wardrobe and applying minimal makeup, Evelyn looked radiant and ready to conquer the day.
Bennett knocked before entering, delivering his usual morning briefing.
"There's movement at Blackwood Industries. Several shareholders seem restless."
Evelyn arched an eyebrow. Exactly as expected.
Old Master Blackwood wasn't the type to surrender without a fight - not while he still had breath in his body.
"Where's my brother?"
The question slipped out before Evelyn realized it, her thoughts still lingering on Isabella.
Bennett smirked. "President Sterling took a two-week vacation and delegated all company matters to you."
"Two weeks?" Evelyn's eyes widened. "Just like that? Without warning?"
"He was afraid you'd refuse," Bennett admitted.
Evelyn pressed her lips together. Typical Alexander - dumping everything in her lap without consultation. Bennett, usually so professional, suddenly turned gossipy. "Rumor has it he's flying overseas to help his girlfriend with something, but really it's just a romantic getaway."
If even Bennett knew about Alexander's relationship, it meant her brother was serious about Amelia Sinclair. Evelyn's indifferent expression made Bennett assume she already knew - after all, they were siblings.
Evelyn sighed internally. 'Fine. Alexander deserves happiness too. I won't screw this up.'
"Alright then. Bring me everything that needs immediate attention."
Bennett nodded and exited.
Blackwood Industries
Employees sensed the unusual tension the moment they stepped into the building that morning. The usual office chatter was conspicuously absent, replaced by an eerie silence.
Nathan emerged from his car, adjusting his suit jacket with a sharp tug. He strode through the lobby with long, purposeful steps, flanked by Harrison and several executives. Their grim expressions sent chills down spines.
Nathan bypassed his office entirely, heading straight for the conference room. Harrison moved ahead to open the doors, revealing Old Master Blackwood seated at the head of the table, face thunderous.
The room was packed with shareholders and Blackwood family representatives - all loyal to the old man.
In just days, Old Master Blackwood had rallied considerable support through whatever means necessary. His confidence was palpable.
Nathan's lips curled into a cold smile as he took the seat directly opposite his grandfather.
At first glance, Nathan's side appeared outnumbered. Department heads filed in behind him, creating a clear divide - two opposing forces preparing for battle.
Nathan's piercing gaze swept across the room, making several attendees shrink in their seats.
'Quite the production,' Nathan thought dryly.
Finally, he spoke, voice dripping with icy amusement. "Good morning, Old Master Blackwood."
Though the shareholders present were his elders, Nathan's position meant he owed no individual greetings. His natural dominance prevented anyone from accusing him of disrespect.
Old Master Blackwood snorted. Seeing Nathan's arrogance only fueled his rage.
He'd raised this ungrateful wretch who now dared defy him at every turn. It was time for a lesson.
'Let him understand,' the old man thought viciously, 'that he only holds this position because of my mercy.'
