Chapter 849
The following morning.
Evelyn arrived at Sterling Enterprises. The afternoon client meeting originally scheduled for Alexander had been reassigned to her.
They agreed to meet at the country club.
Just as Evelyn was about to leave, her phone rang. Preston Sinclair’s name flashed on the screen.
Preston was always polished and considerate, knowing exactly when to push forward and when to step back.
After that terrifying incident, he had deliberately kept his distance, giving her space to recover.
"Evelyn, would you like to go shopping this afternoon?"
She frowned. "Mr. Sinclair, is this a new hobby of yours?"
Preston chuckled, his voice smooth and warm.
"Oliver heard about what happened and insisted I make it up to you. He said I should buy out the entire mall if that’s what it takes to make you happy again."
Evelyn couldn’t help but laugh. A child’s logic was so simple.
Little Oliver had no idea how much money that would actually cost.
"I forgave him a long time ago," she said. "If anything, I should apologize for not understanding his innocent intentions."
Preston laughed softly. "But I still have to keep my promise. Will you give me the chance? If not shopping, then dinner? Or a movie? Anything you want. I’m at your disposal."
Evelyn brushed it off lightly. "We’ll talk later."
After hanging up, she changed into casual attire and headed to the country club with Bennett. Though the air was still crisp, the sunlight was pleasant, lifting her spirits.
This partnership had only been established in recent years.
Vincent Caldwell was in his forties but could easily pass for early thirties. He had an unremarkable appearance but carried himself with quiet confidence. Having previously dealt with Alexander, he was visibly surprised when Evelyn walked in.
For a brief moment, he stared a little too intently before quickly extending his hand.
"Ms. Sinclair?"
Evelyn smiled. "Mr. Caldwell, a pleasure to finally meet you."
Bennett stepped in smoothly. "Ms. Sinclair is our CEO. She’s addressed as President Evelyn."
Vincent quickly corrected himself and released her hand, his demeanor shifting to something more respectful.
"Had I known President Evelyn would be joining, I would’ve suggested a different venue. Golf isn’t exactly a lady’s game."
Evelyn’s smile remained easy. "It’s fine. I may not be an expert, but I won’t embarrass myself either."
They played a few holes. Vincent was clearly skilled—even while holding back, he won effortlessly.
Evelyn sighed in defeat. Golf had never been her strength.
Taking a break, she finally relaxed.
Vincent seemed pleased. As they walked back, his gaze flickered toward someone in the distance, his expression tightening briefly before smoothing over.
"President Evelyn, you’ll need more practice. President Alexander is nearly unbeatable."
She arched a brow. "He does enjoy this game."
Vincent finally steered the conversation toward business.
"To be honest, I’d prefer to focus solely on Sterling Enterprises for this contract renewal. But costs have risen, and we’ll need to adjust pricing accordingly."
He studied her reaction carefully before adding, "Though I’m not sure if your signature holds the same weight. Perhaps you should consult President Alexander first?"
Evelyn picked up her water, taking a slow sip. Was he testing her?
No matter how unassuming a businessman appeared, profit always came first.
"If costs increase, we can maintain profit margins by adjusting retail prices. But higher prices mean lower sales. We chose your factory for quality and affordability. If sales drop, the loss won’t be worth it."
Her tone was calm, deliberate.
