Chapter 870
William Sterling cleared his throat, setting aside pleasantries.
"Amelia, you've known Alexander for years. Our family trusts your character, so we have no objections to your relationship."
Evelyn Sinclair nodded while Lucas Sterling quietly enjoyed his dessert.
Amelia Sinclair straightened her posture, maintaining her poised smile as she met William's gaze.
"Thank you, Uncle William."
William pressed his lips together. "However, you've built an impressive career abroad these past years. What are your plans if you marry?"
This was the crucial question.
The past remained unmentioned. Whatever happened when Amelia left Alexander, whatever pain she caused - that could be overlooked.
But the future needed clarity.
After all, Alexander was his firstborn. His priority.
Parenting Alexander had been a delicate balance - too lenient and risk spoiling him, too strict and risk breaking his spirit.
Amelia glanced at Alexander with a soft smile.
This wasn't difficult for her. She understood the Sterling family's stature. While not overly traditional, they wouldn't accept just anyone.
"Uncle William, Alexander already accompanied me to Montecito to transfer my company headquarters last week. I'll be managing operations locally now. While I'm not giving up my career, we're ready to start our family."
William hesitated, then nodded approvingly.
"Good. Our family doesn't lack resources, but a woman pursuing her ambitions brings fulfillment. You have our support."
His words signaled full acceptance.
Amelia smiled. "Alexander often says Evelyn, though younger, possesses business acumen surpassing most industry leaders."
William chuckled proudly.
"Don't flatter her too much. She's still learning."
Evelyn shot Alexander a surprised look.
Alexander maintained his composed smile. Whether those were truly his words or Amelia's diplomatic skills at work didn't matter - her charm explained his devotion.
The lunch concluded harmoniously.
Afterwards, William invited Amelia to see his prized koi pond. She accepted enthusiastically.
Evelyn needed to discuss Blackwood Industries' gala with Alexander, so he instructed Lucas to accompany their father - lest William keep Amelia fishing all afternoon.
Evelyn sipped her tea. "Should I attend?"
Alexander considered. "Before Reginald Blackwood and Nathan's fallout, there was the board resignation matter."
"This could be related."
"But Nathan controls Blackwood Industries now. What can Reginald possibly do?"
Alexander's expression darkened.
"Don't underestimate him. He still holds shares."
Minor holdings, but enough to cause complications.
Evelyn frowned. Could Reginald actually remove Nathan?
Unlikely.
Nathan's influence extended far beyond Blackwood Industries now. His connections ran deep.
"Nathan probably isn't hosting this event himself, but expect many influential guests."
