Chapter 883
Evelyn was just about to comment on the predictable horror movie plot to Preston when she noticed his pale face.
He had both hands covering his eyes, refusing to look at the screen.
This surprised her. "A Wall Street tycoon afraid of horror films?"
"Mr. Sinclair, are you okay?"
Hearing her voice, Preston immediately lowered his hands and forced a composed expression.
"I'm perfectly fine."
But his strained smile betrayed him.
Evelyn couldn't help but chuckle. The mighty Preston Sinclair terrified by a movie?
"See, she's pushing the door when she should be pulling it. That's why it won't open."
Preston turned just as a long-haired ghost appeared with a shriek. He visibly jumped.
His knuckles turned white gripping the armrests, dark eyes wide with shock.
"Right...of course..." His voice came out hoarse.
Evelyn suppressed a smile. "We can leave if it's too much-"
"No! I'm just...appreciating the cultural aspects." His excuse sounded weak even to himself. Then he frowned. "Why aren't you scared at all?"
Evelyn blinked. "Lucas takes me on set all the time. I know how they film these scenes."
"Ah." Preston nodded in understanding.
After composing himself, he asked curiously, "Does Lucas make horror films?"
She shook her head. "Bad for his image and box office numbers."
Their casual conversation helped pass the time.
Evelyn noticed Preston's tense posture - his eyes never actually focused on the screen.
For two hours, he sat rigidly through the ordeal.
Afterwards, while Evelyn bought drinks, she spotted Preston leaning against the wall taking deep breaths.
She shook her head in amusement. "Such a delicate yet perfect man."
Handing him water, she watched as he gulped half the bottle immediately.
A Wall Street legend reduced to this by a horror film?
"It's getting late. Shall we head back?" she suggested.
Preston nodded, his lips curving into a weak smile.
At the car, Evelyn stopped him. "Let me drive."
His current state didn't inspire confidence behind the wheel. After a pause, Preston agreed.
Back at Sterling Manor, Evelyn offered to have a driver take him home.
"No need. I'm fine now," he insisted.
She didn't press further.
Inside, she found Lucas gaming in the living room with Leo assisting via iPad. The AI tiger's superior processing made them unstoppable.
"Isn't this cheating?" Evelyn teased.
Lucas paused. "Leo's my little brother!"
As if on cue, Leo dropped the tablet and circled Evelyn's feet excitedly.
"Mama, hold me!"
Laughing, she scooped up the AI tiger, shooting Lucas a triumphant look. "Not my fault you're getting outplayed."
