Chapter 979

Few were aware of the true nature between Evelyn Sinclair and Preston Sinclair's relationship, which meant Isaiah Sinclair remained in the dark as well.

Perhaps Isaiah still believed Preston was desperately chasing after Evelyn.

Using Evelyn to destroy Preston was a meticulously crafted scheme.

Evelyn's lips curled slightly. "Let him in." Bennett nodded and stepped out.

Moments later, Isaiah Sinclair strode in, dressed impeccably.

His smile carried the arrogance typical of Pacifica's elite, laced with an unmistakable air of self-importance.

What a perfectly polished villain.

"Ms. Sterling, it's been too long—"

Evelyn smiled and rose to shake his hand. They settled onto the sofa, and Bennett served coffee.

"Mr. Sinclair, indeed, it has. Are you adjusting well to Montecito?"

Isaiah gave a helpless chuckle. "Isn't this kind of business trip routine for people like us? Even if I'm not comfortable, I have to adapt."

Evelyn arched a brow, inwardly scoffing, though her expression remained neutral. "It's rare for you to visit Montecito. I should have invited you to dinner, but I didn’t want to disrupt your schedule. I’ve also been swamped lately—barely able to step away from work. My apologies for the lack of hospitality."

A flicker of irritation crossed Isaiah’s eyes.

Her words were clear—she wouldn’t even spare him a meal.

And she was making it obvious he wasn’t a priority.

Isaiah forced a laugh. "Of course, I came unannounced. This visit is actually about our companies’ potential collaboration. Sloan Corporation plans to expand into Montecito soon. There will be plenty of opportunities to work together." He dangled the bait, watching for her reaction.

Evelyn merely sipped her coffee, unfazed. "That would be something to look forward to."

After all, partnering with Sloan Corporation was a dream for countless businesses.

How is this woman so unshakable? Isaiah thought.

His patience thinning, he cut to the chase. "Ms. Sterling, have you reconsidered my proposal? The Sinclair family is eager for Preston’s return. My brother is gravely ill—on his deathbed. If Preston doesn’t come back to see his father, he’ll live with regret."

Evelyn paused, then slowly set down her cup.

"If that’s the case, you should speak to Preston directly. I’m sure he’ll make the right choice."

"He refuses to set foot in the Sinclair mansion. He needs a push. Ms. Sterling, in Montecito, your partnership is crucial to his career. If you terminate your contract with him and persuade him to return to the family, he’ll respect your decision."

Isaiah’s gaze was relentless. Evelyn lowered her lashes, smiling faintly.

"Preston is a vital partner to Sterling Enterprises. Breaking our contract mid-project would incur astronomical compensation. It’s not feasible from any angle."

"If Sterling Enterprises severs ties with Preston, you won’t need to worry about compensation. Once I bring him back to Pacifica, you won’t pay a cent."

Isaiah’s lips curved into a dazzling smile.

Evelyn scoffed internally. "It’s not that I distrust you, but in business, promises mean nothing without guarantees. Empty words don’t inspire confidence."

Isaiah’s expression stiffened. "Ms. Sterling, are you saying—"

"Mr. Sinclair, if you’re serious, we can have our lawyers draft a contract. If Preston Sinclair demands compensation, will Sloan Corporation cover it—or will you personally pay on Sterling Enterprises’ behalf?"

Isaiah’s smile vanished.
