Chapter 986
The journey hadn't been easy for Alexander and Amelia to reach this point. Setting aside the complications with Isabella...
Alexander Sterling and Amelia Sinclair were the perfect match. They complemented each other in every possible way.
Evelyn was Alexander's sister, so her first concern was naturally her brother's happiness.
If Alexander was content, Evelyn would support their relationship wholeheartedly!
Alexander gave Amelia an exasperated look. Clearly, the engagement had been her idea.
William Sterling nodded in agreement with Evelyn's words. "Exactly. I think you should skip the engagement and go straight to marriage. It's been too long since we've had a wedding in this family. Make it as extravagant as you want - I'll cover all expenses!"
William thumped his chest proudly as he spoke.
Amelia lowered her head with a shy smile, her delicate eyebrows arching slightly.
"We're not in any rush for marriage. I have several major projects underway right now. Planning a wedding requires significant time and attention, which I simply can't spare at the moment. Perhaps we can revisit the marriage discussion once my workload lightens."
Amelia's gentle explanation carried both grace and practicality. Her demeanor was like a refreshing spring breeze.
No wonder Alexander gazed at her with such devotion - a look he'd never bestowed upon any other woman.
Perhaps this was simply fate.
William frowned, about to protest when Evelyn intervened, linking arms with her father. "Dad, don't listen to Amelia. The real issue is that Alexander is swamped with work right now. How am I supposed to manage Sterling Enterprises alone?"
She continued, "I'm overseeing multiple critical projects and relying heavily on Alexander's support. I don't want to delay his marriage, but I have no choice..." By positioning herself as the reason for postponing the wedding, Evelyn knew William would drop the subject.
Personally, Evelyn didn't find marriage particularly appealing, so she defended Amelia's position. Amelia shot her a grateful smile while Alexander cleared his throat and played along. "She's right. Little E needs to put in more overtime, though frankly her focus is lacking. Maybe we should just move her desk into the office..."
Evelyn gaped at her brother. 'Is this really my flesh and blood?!'
William clicked his tongue disapprovingly, his attitude shifting immediately.
He glared daggers at Alexander.
"Don't even joke about that! How could you say such a thing? Are you trying to work your sister to death? I never made you live at the office when you first took over! Forget rushing into marriage - an engagement is perfectly fine!" When it came to his precious daughter, William would abandon any position without hesitation. Alexander rubbed his nose sheepishly and gave Amelia a pitiful look.
Evelyn didn't miss that expression. 'Who would have thought the great Alexander Sterling would be whipped one day?' Amelia's parents had passed away, and her other relatives had turned their backs during difficult times, leading Amelia to sever ties completely.
In other words, the engagement between Amelia and Alexander rested entirely in the Sterling family's hands.
They settled on a date at the beginning of next month.
Lucas emerged from the kitchen with dessert just as the conversation concluded.
Hearing the news, he chimed in, "I'd prefer to get married right away..."
Alexander smoothly retorted, "You don't even have a girlfriend."
Amelia couldn't help but giggle.
Lucas shot his brother a glare before turning to Evelyn.
"If Little E would cooperate, I'd have children by now!"
William angrily hurled a nearby cushion at Lucas. "Watch your mouth!"
Evelyn laughed and raised an eyebrow. "I told you patience is key!"
"She's constantly surrounded by male models trying to seduce her. How can I possibly be patient?" Lucas countered.

"I'm just helping you keep an eye on her..."
Evelyn murmured softly, her smile tinged with guilt.
