Chapter 995

Ava turned to her new companions with animated enthusiasm.

"Trust me on this. Don't let Ms. Sinclair and Mr. Blackwood's divorce fool you. Her grip on men is suffocating. She's clearly involved with Preston Sinclair, yet she still clings to Nathan."

She sighed dramatically. "I'm living proof of her pettiness!"

Madison Cole's eyes widened. "Wait—you left Pacific Crest International because she was jealous of your proximity to Nathan?"

"Exactly. Before his true position at the company was revealed, I was on track to become the Asia-Pacific president. But the moment his identity came to light, my impeccable credentials suddenly became a target. She forced me out."

Ava shook her head, feigning regret.

The other woman scoffed. "I've heard how ruthless Evelyn Sinclair is. No one dares cross her—women in our circles are warned to steer clear. Ms. Blake, since you've only recently returned to your father's side, you might not know. If you ever see her, walk the other way."

Ava's lips curled in defiance.

"I'm not some helpless lamb anymore. My father's backing me now. Why should I bow to her whims?"

Madison quickly chimed in, eager to flatter.

"Exactly! You're just as much a heiress as Evelyn. And with your experience at Pacific Crest, you're more than capable. Once you take over your father's company, you'll outshine her easily!"

From the side, Isabella Montgomery stifled a laugh. Madison glanced over but saw only two masked women enjoying their spa treatments. Her attention snapped back to Ava.

"Besides, you and Nathan are far better suited. Men get blinded by Evelyn's looks, but when it comes to pedigree and capability? No one compares to you."

Ava preened under the praise. She had only meant to tarnish Evelyn's reputation, but these women were eating it up.

She sighed theatrically. "If only more people saw her for what she really is. But alas, most are still under her spell."

Isabella snorted again.

Evelyn Sinclair rolled her eyes. Isabella just had to draw attention.

Madison's suspicion flared. She had caught the sound one too many times. Her sharp instincts wouldn't let it slide.

She strode over, arms crossed, glaring down at Isabella.

"Excuse me, miss. Care to explain why you're eavesdropping and laughing at our conversation? Got a problem with what we're saying?"

Ava and her companion turned, curious.

Isabella lifted her head, her smirk evident even behind the mask.

"Who said I was laughing at you?"

Madison stiffened. That voice…

Before she could place it, Evelyn removed her mask, her smile icy.

"If you're going to gossip, pick a better venue. Public places have a way of backfiring."

Madison paled, her breath hitching.

Oh no.
