Chapter 131
"You're referring to the de Armas family, aren't you?"
Seeing Evelyn already knew, Edmund nodded without hesitation. "I planned to wait until you'd accomplished more in life before telling you about her."
"Zoe, even if you discover the truth about her someday, don't blame your mother. She adored you. Knowing the Vanderbilts would mistreat you after her passing was why I stepped in." Edmund walked Evelyn to the door.
After saying goodbye, Evelyn entered her car and drove off.
Nearby, Vivian Vanderbilt had been tailing Evelyn all day. Her fingers tightened around the steering wheel as she pulled out her phone the moment Evelyn exited the mysterious man's residence.
Scrolling through the photos, a malicious grin twisted her lips.
'Got you now, you little bitch!'
At Vanderbilt Manor...
Laura Scott emerged from the bathroom in a silk nightgown, only to find Richard already asleep. Resentment burned in her chest.
'He hasn't touched me since that night when Mother mentioned Isabella Gonzalez. But I won't give up.'
She slithered into bed, pressing against Richard. "Darling..."
Richard jerked awake, shoving her away. "Must you be so desperate at your age? I'll sleep in the study."
Watching him leave without a backward glance, Laura's face flushed with rage.
'How can a dead woman compete with me? If Richard truly loved Isabella, why did he choose me? Are all men such faithless creatures? Now that he's tired of me, he's reminiscing about his ex-wife?'
Days of this treatment had worn her patience thin. A vicious glint flashed in her eyes.
'Richard Vanderbilt, if you won't touch me, don't blame me for what comes next.'
Vivian stormed into Goldmann Group headquarters, marching straight to the 16th floor. Gregory's expression darkened at her approach. "Ms. Vanderbilt, what brings you here?"
"Can't I visit my dear sister?" Vivian crossed her arms defiantly.
Gregory chuckled coldly. "You're not welcome here. Leave."
"You're just Evelyn's lapdog! Who are you to order me around? Tell Evelyn to come out here!" Vivian's voice rose shrilly.
Evelyn stepped off the elevator just in time to hear the commotion. Her eyes turned glacial. "Shouldn't you be hiding in shame? Bold of you to cause a scene here."
Vivian's smirk turned predatory. She opened her mouth to speak, then spotted Nathan exiting another elevator.
Her face lit up. "Nathan!"
Nathan's gaze remained indifferent. "What are you doing here?"
His coldness stung. Biting her lip, Vivian blurted, "I came to show you the truth! Don't let Evelyn deceive you any longer!"
Nathan glanced at Evelyn, raising an eyebrow. "Oh? And what truth is that?"
Vivian pointed an accusing finger. "She spent an hour at some man's house last night! I have proof!"
Evelyn's brow furrowed.
'That was Uncle Edmund's place. She's been following me? And she actually came here to make a scene over this?'
Noticing Nathan's intense stare, Vivian pressed her advantage. Adopting a wounded expression, she sighed dramatically. "Nathan... I couldn't bear seeing her play with your feelings like this."
The air grew thick with tension as Evelyn met Nathan's unreadable gaze. Behind them, Gregory discreetly signaled security.
