Chapter 340

"But if we suddenly got married, what about your grandfather—"

"Have a stroke from rage?"

Before Evelyn could finish her sentence, Nathan pinned her down, his muscular arm wrapping possessively around her slender waist.

His lips curved into that infuriating smirk. "That's why we need to give him a fourth great-grandchild immediately. Better yet, three more. Keep the old man busy chasing toddlers so he won't have time to disapprove of you."

"Mmm—" Just as the mood turned tender, Evelyn suddenly clung to him fiercely. That desperate embrace shattered his last shred of self-control.

The next morning—

Nathan awoke to find Evelyn still curled against his chest. He couldn't resist tweaking her adorable nose. "Rise and shine, sweetheart."

His morning voice was unfairly seductive, especially with that endearing "sweetheart." Even half-asleep, Evelyn felt her pulse quicken.

"Five more minutes..." she mumbled, burrowing deeper into the sheets.

The dark intensity in Nathan's eyes melted as she nuzzled against him. A wicked grin played on his lips.

"Then I'll join you." He yanked the covers up—

Evelyn's eyes flew open!

Nathan lounged beside her, propped on one elbow with a predatory gaze.

Her cheeks burned crimson.

'This bastard is toying with me!'

"Beg me." His smirk turned downright devilish.

Evelyn bit her lip, then flipped their positions in one swift motion.

Downstairs, the trio was already demolishing breakfast. Caleb and Daisy inhaled their sandwiches while sighing dramatically. "Thank heavens Liam can cook. We'd have starved waiting for Mom and Dad."

Evelyn shot Nathan an accusatory glare.

'This is entirely your fault.'

Nathan merely chuckled, looking far too pleased with himself.

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart." Evelyn ruffled Liam's hair guiltily. "You shouldn't have to take care of us like this."

Liam side-eyed his ravenous siblings. "Someone has to be the responsible one."

Nathan tousled his hair. "Today's the big day. Mommy and Daddy are getting our marriage certificate."

Caleb tilted his head. "What's that?"

Evelyn pinched Nathan's arm.

He captured her hand, laughing. "It means Mommy's officially mine now. Good news, right?"

"Amazing!" Daisy cheered.

Caleb clapped. "That nasty woman can't interfere anymore!"

Daisy stood on her chair, hands on hips. "If that ugly witch tries to steal Daddy again, I'll show her what happens!"

Liam began drumming his utensils against the table for dramatic effect.

Evelyn facepalmed while Nathan looked ready to disown them all.

'Maybe boarding school isn't such a bad idea...'

The gleaming Maybach drew every eye as it pulled up to City Hall. When Nathan and Evelyn emerged, whispers exploded through the crowd.

"Is that Nathan Goldmann?"

"Oh my God! They're actually getting married today!"

"How lucky to witness this!"

Evelyn shifted uncomfortably under the sudden attention.

'Could we be any more conspicuous? Was a lowkey courthouse visit too much to ask?'

Then she mentally kicked herself.

'Since when do Goldmanns do anything discreetly?'

Nathan effortlessly reeled her in when she lagged behind, his arm claiming her waist. The onlookers sighed enviously.

"Everyone's staring," Evelyn muttered.

"Let them." His grip tightened. "We're about to be husband and wife. Showing off is practically required."

After the paperwork, they stood stiffly before the photographer. Evelyn's nervous smile made Nathan chuckle as he pulled her closer. "Relax, Mrs. Goldmann-to-be."
