Chapter 433
"I just wanted to stay with him. I never meant to leave him vulnerable, yet I ended up causing him harm."
Noticing Evelyn's despondency, Chloe grasped her shoulders firmly. "Running away from challenges is cowardice, Evelyn. The only way forward is facing them together. Do you truly believe you're responsible for Mr. Goldmann's injuries?"
Her grip tightened. "No, you're not. Our enemies have always existed. Even if you'd never entered Nathan's life, this danger would have found him eventually. It was inevitable."
A faint smile touched Evelyn's lips. "I never knew you were so good at comforting people."
Chloe grinned, scratching her head sheepishly.
Evelyn moved to the sofa and sat gracefully. "Speaking of which, is Rosalind working with them now?"
Chloe nodded, sitting opposite her. "Harrison's already investigating. Who would've thought Rosalind Summers had ties to those people? She hid it well. No wonder she managed to frame Winifred so easily."
Her expression darkened with lingering disbelief at Rosalind's betrayal.
Evelyn's gaze grew thoughtful.
'So Rosalind was involved in the amusement park incident too.'
'It's time I paid her a visit.'
At the hospital...
Nathan's eyelids fluttered open.
The nurse monitoring him gasped and rushed out. "Dr. Raymond! The patient is awake!"
Dr. Raymond, Theodore, and Oliver hurried in. Theodore marched straight to the bedside, scrutinizing his grandson. "Nathan? Can you hear me?"
Nathan nodded weakly. As the nurse removed his oxygen mask, his eyes darted around the room. "Where's Zoe?"
Theodore's face soured. "That woman again? You nearly died, boy!"
Oliver answered quickly, "Ms. Vanderbilt returned to the hotel. She's perfectly safe."
Nathan winced as he tried sitting up, the searing pain in his back stealing his breath. His last memory was the gunshot - everything after remained blank. "How long was I out?"
"Four days in a coma, Mr. Goldmann," Dr. Raymond replied. "Your wife visited daily."
Nathan attempted to throw off the blanket but Theodore restrained him. "Are you trying to finish what the bullet started? You're still in ICU!"
"It was just a gunshot wound. Why ICU?" Nathan frowned.
Theodore exchanged glances with Dr. Raymond.
The doctor offered a placating smile. "Your condition remains... complex. Further observation is necessary."
"Rest now that you're awake," Theodore ordered before turning to Oliver. "Stay with him."
Once they left, Nathan fixed Oliver with an intense stare. "The attackers?"
Oliver nodded. "The Kents, as expected. Also mercenaries hired by Prince Reginald."
Meanwhile at LG Entertainment Club...
Rosalind's blindfold was ripped away. Blinking against the sudden light, she recoiled upon recognizing the woman before her. "Evelyn Vanderbilt? You bitch!"
Evelyn arched an eyebrow. "Why so surprised, Ms. Summers? Surely you anticipated this?"
Rosalind paled when she noticed the foreign bodyguards flanking Evelyn.
'Edmund Lincoln's men.'
Evelyn approached slowly, heels clicking ominously. "Playing both sides must be exhausting."
Her lips curled into a knowing smirk. "Does Nathan know you helped orchestrate his mother's tragedy?"
