Chapter 50
Evelyn had always believed it was just a coincidence.
But now, the truth was undeniable—the man from six years ago was him. Her composure was slipping.
That was why Laura had asked about Caleb and Daisy when she saw them with Nathan. That was also why Vivian kept her distance, terrified Evelyn would get too close to him.
No. She would never let them take her children. Never.
Vivian swept everything off the table in a fit of rage. Laura walked in just as she was losing control. "Vivian, what's wrong?"
"Mom, we have to act before that woman steals Nathan away from me."
Laura's face darkened. "What exactly happened?"
Vivian told her everything—how Nathan had given Evelyn a jewelry company. Laura's expression twisted with fury.
"That vile woman! She’s always scheming." Since Evelyn’s return, their lives had been nothing but chaos.
Now that she had left Viana Jewelry, she had gone straight to Nathan’s company. Laura suddenly remembered something. "What about the incident with Victor Baldwin? Was it exposed?"
"Enough!" Vivian snapped, grinding her teeth. "That woman ran away!"
If Evelyn hadn’t escaped, Vivian wouldn’t have ended up in Victor’s hands. It was all her fault. She was supposed to be the one with Nathan that night!
Laura wiped her forehead. "She’s becoming harder to deal with. We can’t let this continue."
Vivian grabbed her mother’s hand. "Mom, I can’t wait any longer. Nathan is already unhappy with me. He’s starting to question what really happened six years ago. I’m afraid—"
"That reminds me—why would he suspect anything? You covered your tracks perfectly."
"Who knows?!" Vivian jerked her hand away and collapsed onto the bed, seething.
Laura hesitated before speaking again. "Vivian, there’s something else bothering me."
"What?"
"At the restaurant, I saw Nathan with those children. They looked exactly like him. Even I thought they were his."
Vivian shot to her feet, her face paling. "Why are you only telling me this now?!"
"I wasn’t sure! And when I confronted Evelyn, she denied having children."
Laura placed a comforting hand on Vivian’s shoulder. "She only spent one night with Nathan. Getting pregnant isn’t that easy. But we don’t know who those children’s mother is, so you need to be careful."
Vivian froze. She had been with Nathan for six years, yet he had never touched her. How could he have been with someone else? Impossible!
She wouldn’t let anyone stand in her way—not Evelyn, not those children, no one.
"Vivian, I need to visit the hospital soon."
"Why?"
"Because of Evelyn. She came back and fought with your father over the Viana shares."
Vivian scoffed. "Isn’t that a good thing?"
"No. Your father is drafting a new will because of it. It’s obvious he still cares about her!"
Laura gripped Vivian’s shoulders. "If I could give him a son, everything the Vanderbilts have would be ours. Once that happens, my position in the family will be secure. And if you can get Nathan to confirm your relationship, we’ll crush her easily."
