Chapter 205

Dominic Fletcher!

That despicable man!

How had he managed to get inside?

A cold dread settled in Victoria's stomach.

Dominic was pointing at Vivian, his face contorted in terror as if he'd seen a ghost!

This could only mean one thing - he'd mistaken Vivian for Evelyn and was having a complete breakdown. And in this state, he might blurt out dangerous truths.

Yet Evelyn's lips curved slightly at Dominic's terrified scream. From her peripheral vision, she watched panic flash across Victoria's face. Then, with feigned confusion, Evelyn approached the trembling man.

Their eyes met, and Dominic's fear escalated. "Ah! It's... It's really you!" he shrieked, alcohol amplifying his terror. There was no doubt in his mind - Evelyn's ghost had come to torment him!

For all his past sins, this haunting seemed like divine justice.

Evelyn arched an elegant brow. "Do you know this gentleman, Mr. Blackwood? Why does he look so frightened of me?"

Alexander had no idea Evelyn herself had arranged Dominic's invitation to tonight's gala.

His brows furrowed as he strode toward Dominic, his handsome features turning glacial. The sight of this man reminded him of the attempted assaults on Evelyn and the sordid rumors he'd spread.

"Alexander!" Victoria rushed forward, clutching his arm. "This is Blackwood Enterprises' 50th anniversary! Don't let this drunkard ruin the evening. Just have security remove him."

"Am I correct in assuming you recognize this man, Miss Lancaster?" Evelyn inquired innocently. "Who exactly is he?"

Victoria's lips thinned in displeasure. "He was... associated with Evelyn. Let's just say their relationship wasn't exactly proper—"

"That's enough."

Alexander's icy interruption silenced Victoria mid-sentence. The dangerous glint in his eyes made several guests shiver.

"Oh... I see." Evelyn nodded understandingly before approaching Dominic, who was swaying against a table for support. "Sir, you seem unwell. Perhaps you should leave—"

"Stay back, Evelyn! Don't come near me! I know you have unfinished business, but if you want revenge, haunt Victoria! She's the one who killed you!"

The ballroom plunged into stunned silence.

Evelyn tilted her head, her innocent gaze meeting Alexander's frozen stare. "What is this man saying, Mr. Blackwood? What does he mean about haunting? And why mention Victoria?"

Victoria felt the temperature drop around her as if she'd been thrown into an ice cellar. Not daring to look at Alexander's expression, she rushed toward Dominic. "You're drunk, Dominic! There's no ghost here! Evelyn is gone! And I never harmed her - she was like a sister to me! Don't spread these lies!"

Dominic sobered slightly at Victoria's shouting, but when he saw Evelyn's knowing smile, terror gripped him again.

"Evelyn's right here! Can't you all see her? Am I the only one? She's definitely come for me!"
