Chapter 214

It wasn't her after all.

"That's reassuring." Evelyn smiled with satisfaction. "I heard Mr. Blackwood despises Evelyn intensely. She's been gone for three years. Why would you still keep her old garments in your chambers?"

Alexander's piercing gaze locked onto Evelyn's face. "How would you know these belonged to my former wife?"

Evelyn maintained her composed smile. "Isn't it rather obvious to deduce?"

At this rhetorical question, Alexander smirked. "Indeed."

Meanwhile, Victoria reached out to Dominic who had just been discharged from medical care.

Dominic had gained nothing from last night's venture - first terrified by a sudden 'ghost' appearance, then brutally beaten by Alexander until he lost a tooth. A complete double loss.

He'd rushed out of hospital upon learning dental implants cost tens of thousands. Where would a conman like him get that kind of money? Victoria's call felt like divine intervention.

Victoria exercised extreme caution, transferring nothing electronically to avoid Alexander tracing any transactions.

Disguised with a wig, sunglasses, and different attire, she arranged to meet Dominic at a secluded café.

Upon arrival, she slid across a thick envelope containing $100,000 in cash.

Dominic's eyes gleamed as he snatched the bills greedily. "Ms. Lancaster, rest assured! This isn't our first collaboration. Your business is my business!"

"About last night's drunken blunder... that woman you mentioned—"

"Vivian Prescott," Victoria snapped impatiently. "Remember this - Evelyn is dead! Three years gone! There's no such thing as ghosts in this world! Even if Evelyn's spirit crawled from hell, I'd send her back screaming!"

Dominic flinched at the word 'ghost'.

A guilty conscience needs no accuser.

"Keep silent about the kidnapping and this money's yours. I'll ensure you never starve again."

"Ms. Lancaster, my lips are sealed," Dominic assured, then added spitefully, "That Vivian Prescott dared frighten me? I'll show her what real terror feels like!"

Victoria smirked in approval.

Having Dominic deal with Vivian suited her perfectly.

She loathed that woman!

But the kidnapping remained priority - Alexander must never connect it to her.

As evening fell prematurely beneath the stormy skies...

Evelyn sat in Alexander's car, staking out Dominic's usual route home.

Nearly 10 PM when Dominic finally appeared.

He exited a cab, humming cheerfully.

Evelyn immediately slipped from the vehicle, positioning herself beneath a tree.

"Dominic," she called softly.

He froze mid-step, turning toward the voice.

Spotting the pale figure in the darkness, his face contorted in terror.

"Evelyn!"

Seeing Dominic's frightened reaction gave Evelyn grim satisfaction.

She knew this wasn't for Alexander - this was personal vengeance.

None who'd wronged her would escape justice.

Yet to her surprise, Dominic's fear morphed into something more sinister.

"Miss me, sweetheart?" he leered. "Come back to haunt me? Want to make amends? Next time give a man warning before popping up like that. Last night at Blackwood Enterprises' gala, you scared me into blabbing nonsense! Even got your dear sister Victoria in trouble."

His tone shifted unnaturally, fear replaced by vulgar confidence. The bruises on his face twisted his grin into something grotesque.

"God, I've missed you too. Let's relive old times, yeah? Especially that beauty mark on your chest - drives me wild!"

His words grew filthier, expression more depraved.

Evelyn trembled with rage at the man who'd once assaulted her, fists clenching.

"Since you're so eager, why not come upstairs? We'll get... reacquainted."

With that, Dominic lunged at her, hands outstretched!
