Chapter 486
Evelyn parted her lips only to sink her teeth harshly into Alexander's lower lip.
The man's striking eyes flew open, his brows knitting together in momentary pain.
Amusement flickered in his gaze as he misinterpreted Evelyn's violent rejection as passion.
His grip slackened, giving her the perfect opportunity to deliver a stinging slap across his face.
Evelyn glared at him, her fists clenching at the sight of blood blooming on Alexander's perfect lips.
"Don't you dare kiss me with the same mouth that's touched another woman!" she spat, disgust lacing every syllable. "It's revolting!"
She whirled around, her entire body trembling with fury.
Alexander lifted a long finger to dab at the crimson droplet at the corner of his mouth. "You're the only woman I've ever kissed."
Evelyn's steps faltered.
Alexander turned to study her rigid back. "I know you won't believe me, but it's the truth. There's never been another."
Slowly, Evelyn turned, her eyes blazing. "Oh really? So you're telling me you never touched Victoria either? Then how exactly did Ethan come into existence? Spontaneous combustion?"
"..." Alexander fell silent.
Evelyn's mocking laughter cut through the chilly air. "What's the matter? Forgotten all those times she claimed to be pregnant? Or how she supposedly miscarried because of me - the villain in your little fairytale?"
Her voice turned venomous. "You couldn't even bear to come home during our marriage. No, you spent every night with that scheming witch!"
"At least have the decency to own your actions, Alexander. Don't humiliate yourself further."
With that final blow, Evelyn stormed back to the car, slamming the door hard enough to make the windows rattle.
Alexander stood frozen as the ocean wind whipped around him, its icy fingers mirroring the chill in his heart.
He hadn't lied. Ever since discovering Ethan wasn't Victoria's biological child, he'd suspected their relationship had never been physical.
He was certain he'd never touched her while sober. The two times Victoria claimed pregnancy coincided with nights he'd blacked out from drinking.
Now it seemed obvious - Victoria must have orchestrated those drunken episodes, and her "pregnancies" were fabrications.
Which meant his body had remained faithful, even when his mind had been deceived.
Approaching the car, Alexander found Evelyn with her eyes closed, her head resting against the seat.
Perhaps she hoped sleep would make this nightmare of a day disappear.
Respecting her silent request, Alexander remained outside, standing guard as the damp wind seeped into his bones.
Evelyn drifted into an uneasy sleep, waking to find the sky painted in twilight hues.
Turning her head, she saw Alexander still standing sentinel beside the car, his silhouette as immobile as marble.
As if sensing her gaze, he turned abruptly.
Their eyes locked through the glass before Evelyn coldly looked away.
Alexander's lips curved at her reaction as he slid into the driver's seat. "Good evening."
"It's getting late, Alexander. Take me to my child. Now."
"Of course."
Evelyn eyed him suspiciously at his immediate agreement. "Don't play games with me."
"I'm serious." Meeting her gaze briefly, Alexander started the engine and accelerated onto the coastal road.
Thirty minutes later, the car pulled up to Blackwood Estate's imposing gates.
Evelyn's expression darkened. "What is this, Alexander?"
"Where our son is waiting." Amusement danced in Alexander's eyes as he added, "Our child is inside."
