Chapter 487

"Son?"

Evelyn froze.

'Victoria deceived me. I had a son, not a daughter!'

Her heart skipped a beat.

Doubt clouded her vision as she stared at Alexander's joyful expression.

Reading the unspoken question in Evelyn's eyes, Alexander met her gaze before giving a solemn nod.

All uncertainty vanished from Evelyn's heart at his silent confirmation. She practically leaped from the car.

Her hurried footsteps echoed through Blackwood Estate's grand foyer.

Alexander watched her retreating figure with remorseful eyes.

Yes, Victoria was despicable. But hadn't he been just as cruel?

Inside the manor, Eleanor Kingsley was leading little Ethan toward the dining room when a servant announced, "Sir, Madam, Miss Sinclair has returned!"

Both Eleanor and William Montgomery turned in shock, their faces lighting up at Evelyn's unexpected arrival.

"Evelyn!" Eleanor called out instinctively, her voice thick with emotion.

William's hopeful eyes shone. "Perfect timing, darling. Join us for dinner."

But Evelyn barely registered their words.

Her frantic gaze swept the room before landing on the small boy peeking from behind Eleanor.

"Mommy," Ethan chirped sweetly.

His cherubic face broke into a sunshine smile that made Evelyn's pulse race.

"Evelyn? What's wrong?" Eleanor asked, concerned by her strange expression.

"Are there... any other children here?" Evelyn whispered, unable to tear her eyes from Ethan.

The older couple exchanged confused glances just as Alexander entered. Understanding dawned on their faces.

"Are you and Daddy eating with me tonight?" Ethan asked, toddling toward Evelyn with wide, innocent eyes.

Her heart hammered against her ribs.

A terrifyingly wonderful possibility formed in her mind, but she dared not hope.

"Mommy?" Ethan repeated.

Alexander moved beside Evelyn, his deep voice heavy with regret. "When you told me Victoria slashed Ethan's face with a knife, I accused you of framing her. I couldn't believe any mother would harm her own child."

He let the words hang before continuing grimly, "Then I learned the truth - she could do such monstrous things because Ethan was never hers to begin with."

Evelyn's entire body trembled.

Tear-filled eyes met Alexander's guilty ones.

He gently wiped away her tears with his thumb.

"Ethan is the child you bore in prison, Evelyn. Our son."

The dam broke. Tears streamed down her face.

In a daze, Evelyn turned to the little boy before her.

Ethan blinked up at her with crystalline eyes, his smile never faltering.

The pain in Evelyn's chest was unbearable.
