Chapter 499

Alexander's heart twisted painfully.

The moment Sebastian ended his call with Evelyn, Alexander immediately tried to reach her. But of course—she had already blocked his number.

Sebastian chuckled darkly.

"Don't waste your time. Evelyn loves me now. The only thing she feels for you is disgust."

Alexander's expression turned stormy. "What happened to her, Sebastian? What did she tell you?"

"That's none of your concern," Sebastian replied icily. "You lost the right to ask about Evelyn long ago."

"Who cares about that woman anyway?" Margaret snapped from behind Alexander before he could respond, gripping his arm tightly. "She helped Sebastian ruin our family, Alexander! Why are you still obsessed with her? Have you forgotten how much you despised her before?"

Alexander yanked his arm away, irritation flashing in his eyes. "Stay out of my business."

"Alexander! Alexander!"

"Enough!" Henry Blackwood finally spoke, his voice cutting through the tension. "Go pack your things. We're leaving tomorrow."

"What?" Margaret's eyes widened in disbelief. "We're really giving up the estate to Sebastian? He accused you of murdering his parents! I thought they died in an accident—what's really going on?"

"Silence! Pack and be ready to leave."

Margaret pressed her lips together, fuming. "And where exactly are we supposed to go? Some cramped apartment? Absolutely not!"

With a huff, she stormed upstairs, frantically gathering her jewelry and valuables—just in case they were seized to settle the family's debts.

Meanwhile, Alexander followed Sebastian's car through the city streets, his grip tight on the steering wheel.

In the distance, he spotted Evelyn standing beside a sleek black sedan.

The sunlight caught her delicate features, making her glow with an ethereal elegance. His breath hitched.

Alexander quickly parked and rushed toward her.

Hearing footsteps, Evelyn turned—and for one heart-stopping moment, her lips curved into a soft, tender smile.

His pulse raced.

Then reality crashed down.

She wasn't looking at him.

Her smile was for Sebastian, who stood just behind Alexander.

The crisp March wind carried the lingering chill of winter, seeping straight into Alexander's bones.

Evelyn's gaze turned glacial when it landed on him. "Why is he here? I don’t want to see him."

Sebastian smiled warmly. "Then wait in my car. I've already called for a tow truck."

Evelyn nodded. "Alright."

Alexander realized then—the white car stalled by the roadside was hers.

She could drive now.

The realization hollowed him out. He had missed yet another piece of her life.

As Evelyn moved to leave with Sebastian, Alexander grabbed her wrist. "Don't go with him, Evelyn."

She stopped. Lifted her eyes. "Let go."

Two words. That was all he got.

His fingers tightened instinctively. "I won't let you leave with him. You're my wife."

"Wife?" Evelyn scoffed, wrenching free before slipping her arm through Sebastian's. "Let's go, Sebastian."

Sebastian smirked, casting Alexander one last mocking glance over his shoulder.

The city bustled around them, but Alexander stood frozen, the wind howling through the emptiness in his chest.
