Chapter 735
Evelyn drove Lucas's Maserati through the city streets with effortless grace.
The sleek car turned heads as she pulled up to the entrance of Sterling Enterprises.
She strode through the lobby without hesitation, her heels clicking against the marble floor.
No one dared to stop the Sinclair heiress as she made her way to Sebastian's office.
The door swung open to reveal an unexpected scene.
Sebastian stood near his desk, flanked by an older couple and a woman who looked ready to spit fire.
Eleanor Hart, Sebastian's mother, sat stiffly in a chair nearby.
Sebastian's face lit up when he saw Evelyn. "There you are! I was starting to think you'd stood me up for dinner."
He crossed the room in three long strides and took her arm.
Evelyn blinked in confusion. Dinner? They'd only planned a quick public appearance for the paparazzi.
Sebastian gave her a subtle wink.
The other woman's face flushed crimson. "So it's true then? You're dating Evelyn Sinclair?"
Her voice dripped with venom. "You rejected me for some rich bitch with connections?"
Adrienne Sinclair had been obsessed with Sebastian Hart since before her divorce.
At every high society event, she'd watched him from across the room - so different from the overweight trust fund babies she usually encountered.
Her plan had been perfect: divorce her husband, convince her father to pressure the Harts, and finally land the man of her dreams.
Until Evelyn Sinclair ruined everything.
Evelyn immediately recognized the woman. Adrienne Sinclair.
Standing beside her was Terence Sinclair, a major shareholder in Sterling Enterprises.
Evelyn's lips curved into a cold smile. Rich and powerful? Guilty as charged.
Terence looked distinctly uncomfortable. He tugged at his daughter's sleeve. "Mind your manners."
The older man stood and offered his hand. "Ms. Sinclair, what an honor."
His voice held a note of forced politeness.
Everyone knew what Evelyn had done to Sterling Enterprises.
Terence might have betrayed his old friend Reginald Hart, but he wasn't stupid enough to cross the Sinclair heiress.
Evelyn ignored the outstretched hand. "The honor is mine, Mr. Sinclair. I've heard so much about you."
Her tone could have frozen hell.
Terence withdrew his hand with an awkward chuckle. "Sebastian, we'll leave you to your guest. Adrienne, let's go."
Adrienne dug in her heels. "Answer me, Evelyn. Are you going to marry him? If not, stop leading him on!"
Terence paled. "Adrienne!"
Evelyn arched one perfect eyebrow. "And what business is that of yours?"
The simple dismissal cut deeper than any insult.
Adrienne's lips trembled. "If it weren't for you, Sebastian and I would be engaged by now!"
Sebastian scoffed. "In your dreams. Why would I marry a twice-divorced social climber?"
Adrienne pointed a shaking finger at Evelyn. "She's divorced too!"
The temperature in the room dropped twenty degrees.
Evelyn's expression turned glacial.
Terence looked ready to faint. "Ms. Sinclair, please forgive my daughter. She's been spoiled rotten."
Eleanor Hart finally spoke, her voice dripping with disdain.
"Spare us the act, Adrienne. You're not fit to lick Evelyn's boots.
After what your family did to mine, you should be grateful we're not pressing charges.
Find some other poor bastard to trap - preferably one closer to your own age."
