Chapter 738

Now it all made sense why Nathan hadn't acted sooner. He'd been conducting a thorough investigation.

Evelyn remained composed. "I'm merely assisting a friend."

She shut the laptop and removed the flash drive. "I'll have Sebastian express his gratitude properly." This wasn't her battle anyway.

Nathan's chiseled features softened with a faint smile, though his voice remained icy. "Unnecessary. Sebastian's elder brother was my comrade-in-arms. I won't stand idle while their family crumbles. Though I do hope that incompetent Sebastian develops some brains. What good is he if he can't even protect their remaining assets?"

Evelyn had no rebuttal. She'd nearly forgotten Nathan's connection to the Hart family. "So you came here—"

'Just to deliver a flash drive? That seems unnecessarily roundabout,' she thought.

Nathan's gaze locked onto her reflection in the window. "I simply needed an excuse to see you." So blunt! Typical Nathan Blackwood.

His dark eyes burned with intensity, forcing Evelyn to look away within seconds. Ignoring his declaration, she said, "Let's go down for dinner—"

Goosebumps prickled her skin. 'Couldn't he show some restraint?!'

The butler directed maids to set the table. Lucas was video-calling someone downstairs. Evelyn recognized Natalie's voice immediately.

When the camera angle shifted, Natalie spotted Evelyn—and Nathan standing unnervingly close behind her. Her eyes widened in shock.

Lucas, unfazed, proudly showed Natalie the dinner spread. "Nat, I'll bring you next time! Dad's fish are incredibly fresh! I'll make him catch extra so you can take some home!" William kicked Lucas from behind.

"Using your father as bait to impress girls now?"

Lucas ended the call and grinned, pulling out a chair for his father. "Dad, don't be dramatic. It's nothing serious—"

Evelyn and Nathan flanked William at the table while Lucas took the seat opposite. Throughout dinner, Nathan behaved impeccably, engaging William in conversation and preventing any awkward silences.

Lucas focused on eating, occasionally placing peeled shrimp on Evelyn's plate. She kept her head down, actually consuming the food—unlike the others. When her plate emptied, Nathan wordlessly slid a plate of perfectly peeled shrimp toward her.

Evelyn blinked in surprise. Nathan met her gaze calmly, smiled, and resumed discussing business with William as if nothing had happened.

Lucas paid Nathan no mind. Seeing the mountain of shrimp before Evelyn, he shamelessly stole the entire plate. "Did you forget what I told you? Excess shrimp raises cholesterol levels—" Evelyn rolled her eyes. 'Whatever. Now he's playing nutritionist?'

As Lucas ate, he felt an icy stare—but when he looked up, everyone seemed occupied. Must've imagined it.

After dinner, Nathan finally departed. Lucas accompanied William for their nightly drama while Evelyn retreated to the study to contact Sebastian.

Dawn arrived swiftly.

Evelyn had Bennett deliver the flash drive to Sebastian.

By noon, news exploded across financial circles: Carter Corporation shareholder Terence Sinclair had embezzled company funds and forged Chairman Hart's signatures. Sebastian ensured maximum publicity, guaranteeing Terence's permanent disgrace.

The court sentenced both Terence and his daughter Adrienne to prison—though Terence took full blame, securing Adrienne's early release.

Furious, Adrienne stormed Carter Corporation seeking vengeance, but Sebastian's guards barred her entrance. Humiliated, she drowned her rage at her usual club, drunkenly hooking up with an Ian lookalike gigolo.

When Terence received this news in prison, he collapsed on the spot.
