Chapter 754

Evelyn's words cut through Nathan like a blade.

She wasn't just disgusted by Vanessa Holloway—she was repulsed by their entire three-year marriage.

For a moment, Nathan's expression darkened. His lips pressed into a thin line, his gaze heavy as it bore into her.

Evelyn lowered her lashes, inhaling sharply. She clenched her trembling fingers and spoke, her voice icy.

"Nathan Blackwood, don't bring up the past. And I never want to hear Vanessa Holloway's name again."

"Changing from a blood donor to someone who forces others to donate isn't something to be proud of. My blood type is rare, but not rare enough to justify blackmail. I still have my dignity."

Her lips curled into a mocking smile. Then, she pressed the button on her wheelchair and backed away.

"I'm going to rest. Mr. Blackwood, I'd heal faster if I didn’t have to see you again."

She turned and wheeled into her room without a backward glance, not caring how stormy Nathan’s expression had become.

All she wanted was for him to stay far away. The farther, the better.

Maybe then she’d recover sooner.

Evelyn didn’t know why Nathan had punched Preston, but hitting a patient was inexcusable. At some point, he left.

Not long after, the doctor arrived with an update.

"Mr. Sinclair lost a significant amount of blood, leading to temporary oxygen deprivation in the brain. Fortunately, there’s no permanent damage, but he’s still unconscious."

Evelyn closed the magazine in her lap and nodded. "Let me know when he wakes up."

She couldn’t pretend this hadn’t happened.

The doctor noted her vitals before leaving.

Evelyn rubbed her temples, about to lie down, when footsteps echoed outside her door.

She was the only patient on this floor.

She didn’t need to guess who was coming.

Frowning, she made a mental note to request a Do Not Disturb sign.

Before she could dwell on it, the door swung open.

"Evie, look who’s here!"

Lucas’s excited shout shattered her drowsiness.

Evelyn blinked, sitting up to see Natalie, Isabella, and Sebastian standing in the doorway.

Isabella rushed over, pulling her into a tight hug, her eyes scanning Evelyn with concern.

"Nikki, you scared us half to death!"

Natalie gave her a once-over, relieved to see only the cast on her leg.

"Thank God you’re okay! We nearly had a heart attack when we heard about the accident."

Sebastian stepped forward, his eyes suspiciously red, though his voice was steady.

"Evie, how many times have you ended up in a hospital bed? You and hospitals have some twisted relationship."

Evelyn laughed, pushing away the lingering anger from earlier.

"It’s nothing. I’m fine now!"

Lucas sidled up beside her, knocking on her cast with a grin, trying to reassure Natalie.

"See? Doesn’t even hurt!"

Evelyn’s jaw tightened. She stared at him, speechless. Is he really my brother? I’m starting to doubt it.

She wouldn’t be surprised if Natalie asked Lucas to change his last name and he did it without hesitation.

Isabella shoved him away. "Lucas! She’s injured—stop poking her!"

Natalie shot him a sidelong glare but said nothing.

Sebastian looked like he wanted to scold him too but held back.

Seeing everyone turn against Lucas, Evelyn finally felt a little better.
