Chapter 755
Everyone demanded to know the full story of what had happened.
Evelyn Sinclair sighed. She knew they wouldn't leave until their curiosity was satisfied.
Reluctantly, she recounted everything.
As they listened, their faces paled with fear. At least Evelyn was safe now.
Isabella Montgomery clasped her hands together. "Thank goodness for Preston! We have to thank him properly!"
Natalie Beaumont nodded. "Absolutely. No matter what his feelings are toward you, he saved your life. That deserves gratitude—but keep your guard up about everything else."
Isabella blinked. "What do you mean?"
Natalie rolled her eyes. "The romantic implications, obviously!"
Anyone with eyes could see Preston Sinclair’s attentiveness toward Evelyn went beyond mere friendship.
But if he tried to use this situation as leverage, it would reveal his true character—manipulative and controlling.
Sebastian Hart sighed dramatically. "We were so close back then. And we still are now—"
Evelyn groaned and covered her ears.
"You're all overthinking this. He didn’t even bring it up. Mr. Sinclair isn’t the type to exploit someone in distress."
Isabella and Natalie exchanged skeptical glances.
Lucas Sterling smirked and signaled for someone to bring in a table.
Evelyn, who had been dozing off, jolted awake.
She squinted. "What’s this?"
Lucas grinned at Natalie. "Just talking is boring. Let’s play some games while we chat!"
Evelyn’s lips twitched. "I can barely move right now."
Lucas waved her off. "We’re not including you. The four of us can manage just fine without you."
Evelyn stared, baffled.
The room was spacious enough for them to set up comfortably.
Since it wasn’t often they were all together, no one wanted to leave just yet.
Without hesitation, they gathered around the table and started dealing cards.
Evelyn shook her head in disbelief. So much for letting me rest. Who plays poker in a hospital room?
As the four of them laughed over their game, Evelyn turned on a variety show to pass the time.
Coincidentally, it was the one she and Vivian Lockwood had produced.
Adrian Blackwood was the guest star for that episode.
Since launching his acting career, Adrian had skyrocketed to fame—his easygoing charm and the backing of the Blackwood family made him a fan favorite.
His presence alone had boosted the show’s ratings significantly.
Before she knew it, the day slipped away.
Outside, the sky darkened, the evening sun painting the horizon in deep oranges. The remnants of snow on the branches looked almost melancholic.
Just as Evelyn lost herself in the show, a knock sounded at the door.
The doctor entered—and froze at the sight of the crowded room and the poker table.
Evelyn chuckled. "Doctor, is Mr. Sinclair awake?"
It took the doctor a moment to recover.
"Yes, Ms. Sterling. He’s conscious, but he needs complete rest—"
Preston had only woken near dusk, which meant Nathan Blackwood’s punch had been devastating.
Evelyn cursed Nathan under her breath before smiling politely. "Understood. I’ll go see him."
She glanced at Lucas. The siblings had always shared an unspoken understanding.
Lucas lifted her into the wheelchair and pushed her out, the others trailing behind.
Isabella piped up. "We won’t make a sound. We just want to thank him for saving Evelyn!"
Natalie and Sebastian nodded in agreement.
The doctor hesitated before reluctantly conceding.
"Fine."
